I think randy ellis designs make a bar for the genII truck.....they are solid.

thanks! I didnt even know about them.. unfortunately it looks like they only make them for the gen 2 HD's, not 1500's, gonna get in contact with them though..

I have one on my 3rd gen. It mounts on the end of the frame rails where the tow hooks are.

The tow hooks go back on and access to them is clear so no problem on mine.

Here's a couple of pics:

I suspect the 2nd gen bar bolts up pretty much the same way. Definitely give them a call before you buy, Cody.

I would'tnt have a clue where that would bolt up on a 2nd gen...there's no tabs in the bumper except the fog light mounts. I suppose one could fab something up if you had a plasma cutter and a welder. :)

Someone on the forum makes a behind the grille lightbar. I'm not a fan of the design but a lot of people like them.

Factory tow hooks on a 2nd gen mount below the bumper.

yeah I wasnt really wanting to put it behind the grille, not a fan either.

and unfortunately I do not have access to a welder/plasma cutter :(

and also spoke to ellis and they dont have a application for the 1500's.

theres a few universal bars out there like this

universal-2-tab-light-bar.jpg

but idk how comfortable I would be having one of these.

and even if I could get it secure..I live in houston where thieves will take anything they can get ahold of..would prob need to use tamper proof screws I suppose.

It might come with a bracket that mounts where our tow hooks are on the 2nd gens. I had to ditch them when I mounted my bull bar on mine. If you haven't yet, I was going to email them and see if they could send me some pictures of the actual mounts if they have one that's 1500 specific

I dunno. I haven't noticed many 2nd gens around here with them either

I'll shoot them an email in a few and see if they have anything to say lol

Edit: just emailed them and asked if they had any close ups of one mounted on a 1500 or pictures of the mounting brackets

I haven't seen any 2nd gens with them and only a few with them behind the grill. I was pretty close to buying the one that mounts behind the grill from one of them members here. Kinda wanting to get rid of the bull bar on the front of mine

now that you say it iv never seen a 2nd gen with a light bar either.

I thought about the behind the grille bar from that member as well..but with the crossmember grille wasnt sure about it..but now that I have my rok-tek grille which is alot more open..it might be worth a shot now...was really wanting a clean light bar install on the bumper tho...

Hopefully N-Fab will hurry up on their response lol. I like their bar because it's got 4 mounting tabs for lights and nothing across the top to limit the size of the lights. My bull bar only has two tabs and I can only run a 7" or so light with the way it's setup

yeah I like the 4 tabs too, looks solid as well!

Id like to put a light bar on the middle 2 tabs, and put 2 regular lights on the ends.

No 2 wds don't come with 'em...why I dunno! I could never have anything that would cause me to pull them back off unless it's a winch mount. My hooks have been way too handy.

Got a reply from them just a few minutes ago. You've got to drill through your bumper and bolt it on that way which kinda sucks. I don't want and holes in my bumper if I ever decided to remove it.
If you want, I'll attach the instructions they sent me when I get to a computer tonight
