2016 ram 2500 Laramie with the alpine system and factory subwoofer. I removed the factory sub and installed a custom box, single Alpine S-W12-D4 and an Alpine a60M mono amp fed by a line output converter tapped into the front door speakers.

Recently I’ve lost all sound from speakers. Started by audio cutting out at times and returning but seems to have gone completely silent now. Started happening when I installed a new subwoofer box (more air volume). Oddly enough, when the truck is on and I tap the door speakers, it emits a bass sound from my subwoofer and a faint bass sound can be heard from all door speakers.

I’ve disconnected batteries for 30minutes, disconnected factory amp for 30minutes, disconnected all aftermarket audio, checked and replaced fuses and a few other diagnostic tests I found on other forums but still nothing. Note this setup worked fine with no issues when using a smaller subwoofer box but still no audio after disconnecting. I suspect the factory amp went into protection mode or possibly failed due to the increased air volume from my aftermarket subwoofer box which would demand more power.

If anyone has any insight it would be greatly appreciated!

I'd say you are on the right track, factory amp is the likely culprit.

Any experience with this on these trucks? Would you recommend a brand used factory amp or should i go aftermarket? Heard it’s quite tricky to go aftermarket and retain all factory functions

Not with the Alpine amp, the 8.4 radio itself has built in protection when it doesn't sense a load it shuts output to the speaker off.

The way you describe it cutting in and out points to the amp.

Cool, good to know. Any idea why there is still a faint bass sound coming from the speakers when the radio is on?

That would also make me think the amp is the culprit and the amp has failed. I suppose it could be worth looking to see if the stock alpine amp has a fuse for it as well and check that if present.

Checked and changed already - nothing. Going to replace it with another used amp for now and possibly go aftermarket in the future if the issue persists. I appreciate the information

Have you disconnected power to the radio since checking the amp fuse? If not, do that for about 15 minutes

Got busy for a few days and wasn’t able to look into it. Yes, I disconnected power from the amp and batteries again still nothing. I picked up a junkyard amplifier out of a 2022 truck and that also did not work unfortunately. To add to that I’ve been having an issue with battery saver mode coming up on startup. When it comes on, I loose volume control and use of my heated and cooled seats. Not sure if the two issues are related or not

the battery saver mode reduces power too anything not essential if there is a problem with your battery getting low
I’m aware, batteries are less than year old and read about 13.8 when truck is running and battery saver mode is on. Just not sure what’s triggering that message
