I have a 1999 Cummins 2500 4x4 long-bed. I swapped from a 47RE to a NV4500 a little over a year ago. I bought a kit from High Impact Transmission which included a rebuilt transmission. Recently, I've been getting a grinding noise when under load (pulling a hill or accelerating). It's done it in 3rd, 4th and 5th gear. It started doing it just recently when I pulled a moving trailer from Phoenix to Portland. It sounds like transmission to me, but I haven't ruled out the transfer case since I had that torn apart for the conversion. I talked to a guy at the shop that rebuilt the transmission and he said to switch from the synchromesh to synthetic 75w90 in the transmission. Any troubleshooting steps or insight would be appreciated.
