You can do a 3.92 front without needing a new driveshaft, but you would have to replace the entire front axle with a 2012+ with 3.92's. The gears are welded to the carrier on the 2012+ front, so there is no direct gear swap without replacing the front axle.

Anyone know why ram chose to weld in the front gears? Were they purposely discouraging gear swaps ?WTH what if the gears need to be replaced?

Just to give you an idea how STUPID, and I do mean dumb, tall these trucks are geared;

My friend has a Ford dually Power Stroke diesel. Im guessing it's about 5 years old. in 6th gear in his manual truck, at 70 MPH, his engine is spinning 2200 RPM. Occationally, he gets over 20 MPG.

After putting 4.10s in my truck, stock tire height, at 70 MPH, my Hemi is spinning 2000 RPM. I took 2 steps down, going from 3.55s, right past the 3.92s to 4.10s, and my truck is still geared taller than his stock Ford! My truck is also geared taller than my Wrangler, manual with stock 3.73s, and my V6 '14 Performance Pack Mustang.

No way would I mess around with 3.92s.

Its hard to compare a Diesel gear ratio rpm at a speed and a gasser, them powerstrokes have a different torq curve or powerband where requiring different set ups.

As for my Ram I have not researched the ration since the build/sales equip sheet didn't indicate gear ratio, but did all 2011 R/T's come with 3.92's to offset the 22" wheels? I have great acceleration but don't like where it drops at cruising speed. Its close to be where I'd like it, I am thinking of bumping up to 4.10's and sticking with the 285-45's currently on there or a tire similar in height but in a 305 or wider pending major mods required?

There has been work done to this rear diff by the original owner but I dont know what. not sure what LSD system or posi these came with stock but this one definitely leaves a nice pair or black stripes.

Your R/T actually already has a limited slip diff and 4.10's. All R/T's through 2013 have 4.10 gears. Only the 2014 R/T's have 3.92 because they now have the 8 speed transmission.

So If I'm reading this thread right..... If you're a complete moron, and bought a 2015 sport 4x4.... double then triple checked that it had every option you want before you bought it.. and realized the next day it had 3.21's

All you can really do is drink more beer, and hope no one see's your tears?

Or pay ****loads for a new front axle instead of just being able to change the gears. Right.

Our trucks cannot be compared to any of those vehicles you mentioned, and 4.10s are hardly two steps passed 3.55 when compared to 3.92. All gear sets have there own purpose in these trucks and the buyer should be aware of their intended use for the truck and make sure they choose the truck with the correct ratios at time of purchase or be willing to spend the money to make adjustments. Many guys here would be upset if 3.92 was the only option when they just want the 3.21/8spd. I get it if you want your truck to be the fastest or most powerful it can be but you have to pay for programming and boltons to get it there so what is the difference in swapping gears? In stock form most people are satisfied with their choice, especially when they bought their truck with the equipment they felt best for their use.

Myself I passed on the Lone Star editions and went to the Outdoorsman because i wanted the 3.92s knowing I would add larger tires as well as tow heavy from time to time. I'm sure the 3.21 geared trucks run just fine and probably would have been just fine for me but no regrets here. My RPMs in factory form are 2,000 at 70 and closer to 2200 at 75 which is the speed I usually travel. A little bigger tire should get it around 2,000 rpm which would be just fine with me.
