oil change

I find it funny that on the new rams it is in the manual that first oil change doesn't have to be done till 8,000 miles, but i just got an email from the dealer that i got the truck from saying its time for an oil change. I have had the truck for 3 months and don't even have 3,000 miles on her. Oh and of course the email has a supposed coupon for a oil change.

Well they're gonna try and get ya in every 3 months so they automatically set up emails to be sent in 3 month intervals

Ya I don't think dealers or quick lines like the newer OEM recommended intervals. I can imagine the line of bull they'd be giving me coming in every 20k or so. Hence I do my own so I don't have to listen to it

Same here. Mine is supposed to be every 6k, but I do every 3k. After the first oil change I started getting emails every 3 months for an oil change.

i'm thinking i will change it around 5k, and put full synthetic in.

I did my first one at 350 miles to get all the assembly lube and crap out of the motor, while they are building it. From there I will go every 5000 miles. My manual too says 8000 miles, but there is not an oil filter that can go that far!!

Questioned the dealer, cuz they put three thousand come back on my little sticker and he goes yeah we have been fighting Chrysler on that......??????

I just hit 5k so I am going to get my oil changed out. I am not sure what oil I want to go with.

My oil cap says 5/20 motor oil so I will most likely use the Motorcraft 5/20 in it.

It is semi synthetic and worked great in all of my Mustangs.

I did my first around 5k and put full synthetic in it. I try not to go over 5k between changes. I do not trust 8k for changes. I'm about 1k or so away from my third.

Just rolled 3400 miles, Going to change it at 5k.

Going with Mobil 1 5W20 and a Mobil 1 Filter.
There is a specification listed in the owners manual that I couldn't find on any of the bottles at O'Riely's. Googled it, it's been incorporated in the new API rating (SN I think?)

Anywho, pretty much any oil on the market meets the spec.

That is your call. I have personally seen amsoil 10-30 full synthetic oil that has been chemically tested after it was ran in an '04 ram with hemi. The results came back saying it had 17% oil life remaining after the 25,000 miles.

I have used Havoline 5W-20 in mine since I bought it new and have zero complaints. I also refuse to go 6k on an oil change, mine gets changed at 4k which is still out of my comfort zone but so far so good. Chris

Royal Purple 5W20 and a K&N oil filter from Oriley's every four or five thousand miles for me. And a magnetic drain plug!

To each his own but I find it silly to change before 5k on synthetic. Filter is a huge deal though some filters especially fram won't make it. I started using Bosch distance filters and Amsoil 5w-20 and change every 5k to 10k depending on what feels right. I believe you can feel it get sluggish when oil is worn out.

I change it at every 8,000 miles so about to be on my 3rd. Dealer has a note in my file that says don't place a next oil change sticker on my truck and don't contact about an oil change until 8,000 miles
