Just changed my oil and filter for the first time. Why does factory feel it necessary to put the filter on so dang tight??!!! I got it off but man it was Superman tight.

That’s every factory vehicle.

During the paperwork phase of the vehicle purchase, tell them you want a free first oil change, they will never say no. Bring it back a month or two later. They get to deal with the Gorilla tight filter while you drink coffee. They’ll usually wash the truck, too.

Then on the next oil change you get to, more easily, test your luck with the big ziploc freezer bag and not making a mess with the oil filter!

Strategic tools and equipment ofr01 , this company makes three size filter removal tools ofr01. ,ofr02 , ofr03. I don’t remember which is for 10060 ,it’s 1 or 2 ,#3is for SRT filter. This is the only way to go on 4th gens. No more zip locks ,no mess . Best oil filter removal tool there is for 4th gens .

1) Wrong engine. The 6.4 filter is horizontal and above a too small drain tray over a crossmember. The tray spills oil everywhere and you are right there where the oil spills.

2) The 6.7 In my previous truck didn’t have annoying transmission lines in the way so you could easily catch all the oil that runs down the filter then drop the filter in the bag and remove without spilling a drop.

3) People don’t give the Ziploc company enough credit. Excellent product in all aspects and usage!

He contributes by being a ****, and that’s ok. Consider people like him the reason for warning labels on machinery.

And to keep this post on topic. The ziploc bag represents a free solution to an oily mess without the added time wasted on dripping slowly or spendy gadgets.

So at what mileage y’all did the first Oil change
The computer says I got 35 % life on my oil filter life and I got around 9000 miles
If you google it it says 19 models can go up to 15k miles before changing the oil

I've never used a filter plug.I can lower a filter without spilling it.The oil leaks out when you unscrew it.I put a couple of rags to soak up any oil across the steering doohickey and boot.Problem solved. And then I only use the best oil and filter in the world in my stuff also.

ill be honest. if someone says these engines are hard to change the oil and drain pan is to small and oil spooges everywhere, its rubs me the wrong way because i know better. with some thought (very little) and simple enginuity (small piece of cardboard like puzza box any other small flat piece of material laying around the house to hold between draglink and funnel opening) you hardly spill a drop.
when the filter is fully unthreaded dont pull it off the block or you get a big rush of oil . keep light pressure and tilt it slightly or just barely pull it away from the block. now the big gush is a managable small stream right into the funnel and into your drain pan
ive found these 6.4 to be easy and mess free. try changing a toyota 3.4 upside dow filter and not dump it on your face

My 2002Mazda with the 1.8 liter was a not an easy car to change the oil on.And I'm a seasoned professional oil changer outer. My Ram hemi imo is not any trouble. If I get oil on anything I spray it clean.I didnt really mind the spark plug change too much either.
