You know what is missing in the bold statement by mahle, the media itself causes the collapse when it stiffens up. When the oil cycles cause the paper media to bind, it simply does not filter no matter what anyone at bitog says. So unless you blow a hole through the media, or the bypass works perfectly, you get a vacuum effect that collapses the media. At what point do we decide it is just irresponsible to your truck to use a paper filter? Save a couple bucks, can literally kill your cam with the issues known to the 5.7.

No that's the Mopar paper cartridge filter that does that....

I should. They're super easy to change back to the paper Mopar filter if I ever need to bring it in for warranty...

Yeah you should, when filter look like that they just arent filtering. Let us know when you try one.

Will do, I have a Fram Ultra and an Amsoil filter for her GC I'll try next time. I'll get some pics of the old filter too.

I thought those canister filters were supposed to have a bypass in the system, if they don't, that is horrible.

There is, it's built into the oil filter housing/cooler assembly on the 3.6

Yeah I think I paid $45 for it a few years ago which I thought wasn't bad but $74 is a bit steep.

I wonder if you could find a big pipe cutter that would fit the oil filter...

I just use my osculating tool cutting wheel. It would be neat to have a oil filter cutting tool, but there is just some things I can allow in the never ending budget requirements. It's a little harder to do the RP ones, but most other filters it cuts like butter, lol.

All I have is a rigid tubing cutter, nothing that big.

I have changed no less than 30 oil changes on 3.6L using mopar filters and never had one come out twisted like that.

I have one of those cutting wheel compression style ones and unless I’m using it wrong it doesn’t seem to do anything for me...not sure if I’m squeezing the filter too hard or too loose or on the wrong end but on the RP filers I’ve found it best to just go to town with a pair of aluminum snips and some rags so u don’t slip and lose an artery.

I dunno worked for me, but the RP was a little more hard. Once it gets through just follow the cut comes right off with the wheel cutter shown. But those were both cut with that osculating tool. Those compression ones benefit from having a vice, did you have it in a vice?
