Just bit the bullet and ordered 6 20-820s to get the bulk discount from RP Direct. I just did an oil change recently so I'll be putting oil on the gaskets and put them on a shelf for a few months.

Wix XP might be the worst synthetic filter imo, but I'd still take it over paper. But why not just use the best synthetic filters? If you have to buy something it mise well be the best.

Paper has been around forever. IMHO, it’s still fine for lower OCI. Wouldn’t want paper for the now common 10000 mile oci.

Which is why I just went with the mid-size RP 20-500. Same diameter as stock, but longer. Close enough for changing frequency of only 5,000 miles.

btw, don't sweat the pressure relief valve settings. They are only the delta P across the filter element to prevent element collapse. It's a function of how much filtration media capacity there is. Has nothing to do with engine oil pressure.

The GM test shows paper allows more contamination through even when fresh, so I take issue with what you say. It might be fine as you say, but it is never better or equal then the alternative of spun glass. 4 spun microglass in top 4 spots, it isnt close. I'm not sure why anyone with issues like the hemi has with lubrication to not do better then average. just one mans o-pine-yun...

its not so bad actually. just dont pre fill the filter haha. I used to with my old 06 hemi (xg16) and the stock size filter on the new truck but the with the xg2 there is no way you can prefill without spilling.
i go in from the front over the sway bar and frame structure

Ive been using the bigger srt size filter (wix xp 57899) for quite a few changes now, theres just no way with this electronic power steering i could fit a 20-500. 20-820 no problem. Xg2 will fit to, just going to be tougher as its taller than the wix 57899xp

Ah......on my 3/4 ton I think it's still recirculating ball steering. There are so many variants over the 20 years of production it's hard to know what will work. At least there's a list of filters in the thread that will fit the base, then trial and error, I guess.

On my 6.4L Hemi in the 3/4 ton, they made an oil filter adapter that angles from the engine block to a 90 degree angle facing forward, and sideways. I guess they saw too much junk under the block to use the 5.7 drop-down adapter. Big axle and steering members.

For sideways oil filters, I fill them on the work bench until they level at top, then go about the oil change. When it's time to install the new filter, I dump the oil out back into the jug. The filter won't drip much and the media is pre-wetted with oil, so the dry engine runtime is shortened with low flow resistance.

Guess it depends on whether you’re looking for oil flow or filtration efficiency. Valve train issues, I’m going for flow over maximum filtration. Engine masters did a bunch of tests and mostly the racing filters did best
K&N Gold, Wix racing, Fram “race “filter, and Bosch flowed more oil than the rest

Poor efficiency leads not just to wear, but interference over time with sensitive hydraulic mechanisms using engine oil - such as VVT and MDS, and the valves and orifices used to control them. Sticking hydraulic components into a dirty engine oil environment is a terrible misapplication. Just ask any former Navistar HEUI engine owner.

The objective is to find a high efficiency oil filter with lowest restriction. That would be oversized Royal Purple and Fram Ultra. Synthetic media allows consistent sizing of the openings, providing low restriction than uneven sizes in paper.
Oversize filters provide sufficient contaminant capture capacity for 5,000 mile OCI.
Can I prove the limits? No, not without test data. But I do know the physics is sound.

Efficiency or low restriction is a false choice for drama queen engine architectures like HEMI and HEUI. Both are necessary, and possible with today's premium filters.

Everyone penny pinches over car maintainance. A fram ultra is 8.97 at walmart. Whats the point of getting a 4 dollar somethin supertech filter when for a whole 9 bucks you can get a fram ultra??? Even if it was a 18 dollar filter thats not going to break the bank. If it is then put the 5 dollar bag of doritos back to

I've used the M1-210 oil filters, the SRT filter, and for this last oil change, a RP 20-820 oil filter.

Of these three, the RP is by far the nicest. Zero noise / tick on startup.

OK I'm confused. I was searching for the RP 20-820 filter online and no one has them or they are stupid expensive. I tried looking back through here and see some filters may have changed their media and some not available? What constitutes the top three at this time? Or what amsoil part number should I look for?

20-500 is a royal purple filter that people can still find and will fit and is the large size. Fram Ultra is another top choice. Puro Boss has reported to be top quality since they redesigned. I wouldnt stock up on fram ultras, but I would gladly use them. If I had a chance, I would stock up on royal purple filters and lube the oring and store them in a nice place like a closet. I have a lifetime supply in my closet, nothing in them with degrade.

Not totally up on gas engines, if your 2019 can use the 6.2L or 6.4L oil filters then the Amsoil filter you want is EAO11 its a 20 micron rated filter, retail its $22.90 the preferred member price $17.90
