Also Redline and Amsoil are both expensive and benefits are not actually proven by any of us. The ticking is maybe quieter but we have seen failures with all oils am I right? So the RP filter is beautiful but maybe the Fram Ultra is great too.

There you go I have summarized our oil convos.
I haven't heard of any failures with Amsoil, BUT, with that being said I read somewhere that some guy had a problem with Amsoil and filed a complaint and they offered him a settlement with a gag order. Now I don't know if this is true or not, just what I read. Now we all have to think is this the normal business practice of Amsoil or any and all of the company's? When it comes right down to it it's you're truck, you're decision, just make an informed decision.

I know earlier in the thread bypass filters came up. Has anyone ever ran on on a hemi? I found a company who does offer a bypass filter with synthetic media that does catch my attention. Would be worth a try.

Yes, I am well aware of what LSPI is and how it occurs. Your post was about filtration, then about lowering the amount of calcium in oil formulation to combat LSPI. Obviously, the filter will not effect calcium levels. I do agree that you want the best filtration possible in any engine, but that won't have any effect on "additives" in the CC. Maybe you meant contamination vs oil additives such as calcium? If so, that would make sense.

I've been watching this LSPI phenomenon since 2011 when they first started publishing studies on it. Studies have shown that lubricants definitely do play a part in this, but changing formulations too much just to combat LSPI is playing with fire. It's more about temperature and pressure. Since discovering this "GDI" success, the auto industry has been a hot mess. The EPA is keeping their feet on the manufacturers' necks since they themselves have proven the ability to create more efficient cars is there.

In an attempt to capitalize on this new-found GDI discovery, they've found more hurdles than anticipated for sure. Oil is not the answer. It is a bandaid. While it can lower the number of LSPI occurrences, it is not the long-term cure. Right now, they are messing with oil formulations and spraying extra gas in the cylinders between strokes just to cool them down, which negates the whole reason for going GDI.

I think the cure will be in cam/valvetrain/ignition design changes, such as Mazda's SKYACTIV-X, which switches between gas and diesel technologies, or in a milder design change, VW's Budack cycle, which uses a scroll-type pin-actuated cam to adjust cam/valve timing and duration. It may be further down the line, but I think a KOENIGSEGG-like camless engine will ultimately see mainstream production in the next 5-10 years. It'll be interesting to watch how this all unfolds for sure.

Great post. Thank you!!

Don't you guys ever read? Those are cellulose filters. Not that I am judging, still might be something someone would want to run.

When LSI began working with the Frantz line, the company studied 3rd party lab reports, reviewed Frantz company testing data and conducted internal baseline testing. With the Frantz Filter System, the oil clean-up is achieved by filtering the engine oil from the bottom of the unit through a 4.25 inch dense cellulose based filter media that is re-circulated back to the engine. Cellulose is a natural polymer and is a great material for filtering due to its high strength and random fiber size. The Frantz Filter maximizes effectiveness due to this specially designed and tested cellulose media and the correct degree of tautness around the filter’s core.

Thanks for that, pretty darn confusing on what you are getting.

A side note, they have a pao based oil they sell as well.

With a tbn booster, a great idea if you are extending your oci.

I will say this, the filter does look very good and best of all the filters are reasonably priced, something you can't say with other bypass kits. And great results.

And a synthetic media filter , also a TBN booster for extended drain intervals .

Now I remember the name Frantz, it is the original toilet paper filter, lol. What a great idea though, have a toilet paper roll being synthetic media.

Oh ****, now is Scott better than generic store brand, or is Charmin better because it wipes cleaner?

This guy fed up with Amsoil's bypass pricing took the Amsoil off and went with the Frantz.

If memory serves me right those toilet paper filters were around a long time before Amsoil was even thought of.

Just finished visiting with my uncle who has a 2015 Ram HD3500 dually w/6.7L CTD. Since his first OCI he has been running the Donaldson Blue P616743 oil filter along with Rotella T6 5W-40!

His family is all retired & travels the Country with their 5th wheel in tow!

Now I have 2 options the Fleetguard Stratapore & the Donaldson Blue!

What are your thoughts? Compared to the amazing Stratapore.

Also can very much depend on the RP filter.

While he was here: Did convince him into draining his Front & Rear Differential & switching to RL. Transfer Case & Transmission will be next in the spring.

We Even sat down over a few cups of coffee & chatted about him running 8oz of Archoil AR9100 w/every summer OCI.

I've heard that Donaldson has a sterling reputation however I don't have any first hand knowledge, just comments from diesel guys I trust.
