So for anyone still interested, I tried installing a brand new RP 20-820 again on my 2016 5.7 using RLK’s suggestion of using some Scotch Brite on the gasket seat surface and had no issues with leaking at all. I really believe there was a problem with the gasket on the first one I tried, but the extra cleaning with the Scotch Brite certainly couldn’t hurt... I noticed that from gasket to gasket on these filters that they can vary in thickness and consistency of thickness across the gasket, maybe something to pay attention to when installing a 20-820 on a newer truck?? Anyway I found that the difference in outside diameter on the larger filter vs the smaller one is only a sixteenth of an inch....

Just finished visiting with my uncle who has a 2015 Ram HD3500 dually w/6.7L CTD. Since his first OCI he has been running the Donaldson Blue P616743 oil filter along with Rotella T6 5W-40!

His family is all retired & travels the Country with their 5th wheel in tow!

Now I have 2 options the Fleetguard Stratapore & the Donaldson Blue!

What are your thoughts? Compared to the amazing Stratapore.

https://www.donaldson.com/en-us/eng...e/replacement-filters/donaldson-blue-filters/

https://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/filters-and-by-pass-systems/oil/donaldson-blue-oil-filters/

https://www.cumminsfiltration.com/innovation

Also can very much depend on the RP filter.

While he was here: Did convince him into draining his Front & Rear Differential & switching to RL. Transfer Case & Transmission will be next in the spring.

We Even sat down over a few cups of coffee & chatted about him running 8oz of Archoil AR9100 w/every summer OCI.
Do you have any experience with that archoil? Guy I know been trying to get me to try it for several months now.

Personally? No...
I have never used this product.

I only know about it through reading the hundreds & hundreds of positive reviews.
My uncle has been using 8oz every oil change since the 15K mile mark. On advice from his lead mechanic @ his local diesel performance shop whom does his oil/filter service.

With 46K miles acquired he did his first UOA last summer.
Wear #’s were below normal.
I’m by no means attributing those low #’s to the AR9100.
T6 5W-40 is an outstanding Oil.

I think normal dose is 16oz...
He only uses 8oz.
When his 6.7L reaches the 100K mark the full 16oz will be used.

Only downside is this Additive is not cheap.

I myself just can’t ignore ALL the positive reviews.

Yeah, this guy is a mechanic by trade and sells the stuff. He's an indy so he does UOA's on just about everything. He claims he doing 10k OCI on conventional oil with a number of his customers with this stuff. He even runs it in his yard tractor. Sounds interesting, just not convinced I need it.

From what I have read this product is a special blend of Boron.
I don’t know were the nano technology comes in.

Boron is a special Anti-wear Additive & Robust Cleaning agent.
A lot I don’t know.

I honestly would say Not Needed.
To me it similar to adding ZDDPlus = extra piece of mind. (For a Hard Working Engine).
It’s definitely not harming the internal moving parts.

I do think I will stick with 4oz of ZDDPlus especially during the summer months when all the towing will take place.
At least it will not have any effect on the basic chemistry of the oil.
Zinc is Zinc & Phosphorus is Phosphorus. Only the ppm count will change.

He pretty much uses whatever oil he can buy cheap, and then drs it up with this stuff. I prefer to start with a good oil in the first place and not worry about it.

Ask the powerstoke guys about archoil, they swear by it. I wonder if it would help prevent cam and lifters problems in Hemi's...

That was the only reason that I was even interested in it at all.

At $ 45 + tax a bottle you're talking $25 an oil change. Might have to go to PP or Mobil1 from Walmart to give it a try, at least that would cover some of the expense.

Has anyone happened across a cartridge-type oil filter with synthetic media? (Not cellulose) I know its not for a Ram, but the wife's VW Atlas. Its a new vehicle this year, but the VR6 engine has been around in many different vehicles for 10 yrs or so in different variations. I cannot for the life of me find one! Nor can I find anyone talking about it on any of the forums. I'd really like to know why this is. Any info or even speculation as to why manufacturers are choosing to avoid this?

Guess not Fram, just looked at their website and they don't have an ultra listed for the vw, just their standard extra guard.

Thanks for taking the time to check that out. I've spent more time than anyone should looking for a synthetic-media cartridge filter. There's got to be a reason...

Nope. They recommend 10k OCIs. This is supposedly the best filter they make. Purchased from local dealer. Boxed as VW brand, Mann HU6002 printed on filter. Made in Czech. It looks and feels fairly solid, but it is cellulose for sure. The ends seem to be a denser cellulose and are somehow bonded. No plastic or metal.a622dc37acc3867ac6bbc1589de5f1e4.jpg

Oh I definitely will not. Probably closer to 3 or 4k if I cannot find a synthetic filter.
