Oil Filter Thread

does anyone fill their oil filter before they install it?it seems like the right thing to do to avoid the second or two of initial dry start up.i have always filled mine,just wondering if anyone else does and if it really matters.

I do the same. Have done for years now. It’s how I was taught to change oil.

The 6.4l goes in horrizontly so, I put some oil in but if I fill it a lot spills out.

What part number is the royal purple oil filter for our rams? And where’s the best place to get them from? Thank you!

use now royal purple better filter oil press same but oil still very clean after 2,000 so let boss wix cheep filters go rp heavy filter ! trying seeing clean oil and feel better ! cost more but don't want a $5000 rebuild to do !

Just a heads up everyone, I had a leaking problem on my 2016 with the RP 20-820 even after double checking the seal and cleaning the seal
surfaces and tightening as tight as I could by hand, installed an RP 10-48 and no more leak. I'm just hoping maybe it was a defective filter as
I'd really like to try the 20-820 out for awhile. Is there anyone on here with a 2015 or 2016 that has had 0 issues using the RP 20-820??

yes bad filter went threw three time one wasn't install right ! then next two would leak by winter it stop and years gone buy no problem I do like the fit of my rp 20-820 seems fin on mine ring on it was just a little wider I put some oil on rubber ring install next day no leaks ! had 1 boss filter leaks start on my 2 k-n filters leaking one was hand tighten after leaking over used a ranch on it bad service for sure !

Ordered half dozen RP filters a while back to have on hand. Anyway, was cleaning away the garage today and when I moved the filters I noticed a rattle coming from one of the boxes. It sounds like the internals are loose, to the trash it goes.

I always filled the oil filter on my '02 Cummins on each oil change. Those things hold about 1/2 gallon of oil.

I was at my local NAPA today, and picked up a flyer. They are showing NAPA Platinum Oil Filters for $5.99. I believe these are Wix XP???

Did my first oil change on the rig today. I am loving the auto antirust system on this thing!! LOL

I had a zip loc bag over the filter when I was running it down, but after 540 or so turns before the filter came off the threaded nipple, I lost control and the filter fell down and rust proofing splattered everywhere.

But now the truck has a fresh load of QSUD + Lubegard in it and it sounds just fine. (As it did before)

Fram UltraGuard filter too.

I use the Mopar filter and the first time I thought it was because I had Firestone do the oil change before that. When I did it the first time, I made sure to get the filter on there as tight as I could with my hands. Sure enough, I changed it the second time and it was loose again.

I have always turned the filters until the gasket hits the metal and then turned it 3/4 of a turn, but it seems these filters need it tightened a little bit more. Has anyone else ran into this? I will probably start using the Royal Purple 10-48 filter. Do I need to use a wrench to get it tighter? If so, does anyone have a recommended wrench that fits that particular filter?

My opinion, I'd be real careful on that. Over tightening is never the answer. I think I would test it like every 1,000 miles and get under there and see if it loosens. Possible use anti seize or thread locker. Worst case maybe consider relocate kit, maybe at that point you can use high temp silicone to lock it, but not unless you relocate. Just an opinion, wonder what everyone thinks on that.

I've never looked into how hard it is to change the threads and butt plate. Something now I'm curious about.
