Well, this is a little weird, pdf amsoil filter. Did amsoil change their filter? as we know it is always possible, did rp change as well?

That shows a different bypass the RP, "if" they have it. Corey didn't you cut the 11 open? Damn, I guess I have to go back and see if we have any cut open. I will post my RP filter cut open again. We need guys who have bought amsoil 11 or rp 20-820 recently to cut open filters for the forum. thanks in advance anyone who does this.

I've cut so many filters open I honestly don't remember lol. I know I ran a EAO11 for a few thousand miles but I don't remember if I cut it open....

Corey's data shows amsoils EAO11 has a bypass 11-17 pounds, which is great. So, there ya go, story over imo.

According to that PDF, the EA15k50 (small one they used to spec for the 5.7 & 6.4) has a bypass valve as does the EAO11. Interestingly enough they have different pressures.....

Corey's data also shows that suspect filter also has a bypass, a little stiffer, but still it looks good. So now my question is did amsoil "upgrade" their filter and the "new" bypass style less reliable then the old type you see in my picture above?

To be continued, we need cut open pics anywhere on the net that shows the new amsoil filters cut open.

Well, I've been reading this thread on oil filters. I have a few Purolator Boss oil filters I purchased a few months ago after reviewing many videos and reading reviews from other places. So, this wouldn't be a very good choice to use on my engine?

So here is where it can get interesting and info we need but it would suck. If RP and Amsoil will still be clones, but RP will use the Amsoil bypass that may be the reason for this issue, then RP would lose it's position on the top of the hill. I guess this is the type of stuff that is why you can never become complacent. Oil formulas change and so do oil filters.

Well, I've been reading this thread on oil filters. I have a few Purolator Boss oil filters I purchased a few months ago after reviewing many videos and reading reviews from other places. So, this wouldn't be a very good choice to use on my engine?

It appears the new Puro boss is way better then the old Puro synthetic filter. You should be good, it is a popular filter on the board.

I have taken serious note on the RP oil filter/Red Line 5w30 you folks are using. I want my truck to last a long time and I value these opinions strongly and will be changing my oil very soon to Red Line 5w30 ... I do not think that my local autoparts places carry the high end RP oil filters

Just changed my oil 2 weeks ago. Changed out the pup 0w40 with 15oz lubegard and rp 20-820 oil filter. It had roughly 4.5k miles on it. The last 500 miles or so first start in the morning had a tick the first few seconds. Otherwise the first 4k it was quiet. I ordered another 20-820 rp filter from Amazon along with the pup 0w40 a month ago since I was getting sent to a job 5 hours from home and wanted to change it out while I had the time. After I ordered it was told the filter was backordered. So I just got the stock size knn filter from Walmart and changed it out. Been quiet so far on initial startup after 2 weeks and almost 2k miles.

I think you are good with your filter choice, if you get any start up tick another option would be wix xp, those three filters - puro boss, RP/amsoil and Wix XP are real solid choices, unless something changes. As for redline, it is a great choice, but if you don't have tick, there are many good choices. All of the info is that these hemi's can do as you wish, last a long time, I think in a well running hemi the filter choice may be more important then the oil choice.

Ok, thanks. I do not have the famous hemi tick but I do have what I refer as dry starts because of the truck sitting idle since I've retired. I'm close to 3000 miles since my last oil change and that was November/2020 ... lol.

fyi ... My current RAM is an 2017 and I'm @ roughly 38,600 miles ... oil change soon for me. I've owned RAM trucks since 2005 (6 RAMS) and have had exellent experience in reliability in these trucks and would buy another.

I would like to ask you folks who have opted from using an after market equivalent oil filter to using the MOPAR SRT OEM filter on the HEMI powered RAM ... would the safety check valve/bypass valve be at an higher relief of psi due to the higher performance/compression ratios of the 6.1/6.2/6.4 HEMI ...just wondering.

Hemi395, what is the OEM part number for the SRT/MOPAR oil filter ... I asked my local Chrysler parts counter attendant to view one in person for arguments sake and he brought out an oil filter that was exactly the one I used in previous RAM trucks before 2012 ...(MO-899) ...he stated to me that that was the same oil filter the SRT HEMI used ?
