im about to change my oil and i decided to look inside some of my old wix xp filters and noticed one looks different. Maybe its been covered before but its been over a year since i read this thread from start to finish but maybe someone else can better explain to me what the difference is since beyond filter media im as clueless about oil filters as any random guy off the streets.

the new filter is the wix xp 57899 i will be installing today and the used ones are both wix xp 57060. Ill post some pics of the purolatoe boss i used when i get er out

WIX is now owned by its parent company Mann+Hummel which in turn owns Purolator also. Even before Mann+Hummel bought WIX, they also had factories in Mexico that supplement oil filters sold in the United States.

So your oil filters while they maybe the same part number, could have different sources of production and even in process changes as previously mentioned. Regardless, WIX is still a decent quality filter and would trust any of them to have met the specs that WIX claims them to be.

Obviously they have changed for reasons only known to them. Nothing stays static in manufacturing and other oil filter brands have changed their manufacturing processes also. Could be cost savings whether it be time, material or just it was easier to go to a new design because the old tooling got worn and it was cheaper to go to a new process. Could also be taking what is best practices from their other brand partners.

So, here's the oil filter fit on the heavy duty trucks with the 6.4 Hemi, at least for Gen IV model years. The lower radiator hose is close to the canister outer shell. Hard to say how close, I couldn't get a caliper in there. There is lots of room to grow the canister height, however - something like a couple of inches before it hits the radiator fan shroud lip.

So again, for me with the HD truck, I'm going with the longer canister Royal Purple 20-500 (w/ same diameter as original).

P.S. - that's a stock size Fram Ultra XG10060 on it at the moment.

I found the big wix xp 57899 very easy to fit. Only hand tight though couldnt get my filter wrench in there

which truck and gen? HD Gen IV 6.4 sticks the oil filter sideways toward the front - totally different than my previous LD Gen III 5.7, where the oil filter hung straight down.

Just placed my fall maintenance order with Summit Racing. Rock Auto's gone downhill, Amazon is being flaky. Always glad to spend a few extra pence with a U.S. firm.

This is my 1st Royal Purple Oil Filter, p/n 20-500. It is oversize (longer) compared to stock size 10-48, app. 1/3 more canister area. I'd used Fram Ultra XG up to now. RP gives me the most oversize area without installation difficulty.

Since I've reduced driving to only 2 oil changes a year these days, I won't be able to observe fair comparison of EVIC oil pressure reading while holding all other variables constant, due to colder ambient temps and 0W oil. In the spirit of Taguchi Design of Experiments, it will still be a data point, but with multiple changing variables. I will report results in Nov / Dec.

Conversely, I changed oil late spring from PUP 0W-40 to RL 5W-30 using the same Fram Ultra XG Oil Filter (stock) 10060, and I didn't see any discernible change in EVIC oil pressure data. Remained 35 psi idle / 55 psi transit, regardless of outside temp or speed.

Perhaps this only means they use the same pressure bypass valve settings, we don't know cause RP ain't sayin'.

Any thoughts on these filters? I work for a CAT dealer and we stock Donaldson. I get them at cost. Curious if it'd be any good for the hemi.

From my perspective as a retired Cummins and Mobil Engineer, Donaldson is the best of the best - their spun microglass filter is the industry standard. I believe they are still made in the U.S., where others are outsourcing - including Fleetguard (moving from Iowa to Mexico).

I wonder if Donaldson is the maker of the original OEM airfilter on my 2020 2500. looking at the photo they look the same. I just changed air filters and they changed the OEM part numbers and the new OEM does not look as robust as the one I replaced it with.

this is an OEM one on my 2020 PW looks like I have enough room to run one 2X the size.

I did look at the Donaldson air filter on their site, looks like the OEM. When I searched for the Eco diesel filter it showed the same filter as the 5.7 though. I didnt see a larger pleated filter. I did not check the 2500 6.4 though. Unfortunately I do not stock the air filter, one of my stores carries the oil filter though. I also buy donaldson oil filters for my lawn tractor, cheaper than the kohler filter, never had an issue. I was just curious if anyone had any experience with them on the hemi. My cost for the P550794 oil filter is $3.95!!

I've got a 2020 2500 Tradesman 4X4 and have a WIX 57060XP, but is there enough room for the 57899XP, in your opinion.

Ive heard of people fitting the rp 20-820 which is the same size as the wix xp 57899 so i would assume it would fit. Fits my 1500 5.7 just fine

I bought the Trans Dapt 1127 for my Hemi. I have a couple extended length filters left from my 3.8L V6 Wrangler. PL20195 and PH3600. These filters have the correct thread and gasket, 12 psi bypass and are much larger than the stock filter for the Hemi but a little smaller than the XG8a. Do you see any reason I should not use them?
