guys have you ever had the problem of buying the right oil filter but it was wrong????? I have an 04 ram with a 5.7 and I changed the oil for the first time today i use mobile 1 and the part number for that is M1204A, and it was wrong. It was too big but thats what it called for so I reused what I took off. PM3614 is what was on there. Am I missing something here? 20200812_154413.jpg 20200812_160510.jpg

No it wouldn't fit. As it was to big. So i ended up putting it back on as there was only 1000 miles on. I have owned a few rams with the 5.7 and always used the same oil filter but this one is a lot smaller. Just scratching my head thats for sure

There's always some size difference between different manufacturers for the same part number, but being sized so differently that is doesn't fit I've never seen happen.

I remember buying an orange Fram over 30yrs ago at a local department store, only to find out it was another brand in the box once I got home, had the oil drained out of my vehicle and the old filter off. Luckily who ever did the switch-a-roo on me was nice enough to make sure it was the same filter fitment.

The 'PH3614' fits a Dodge Neon or 4 cylinder engines. I can't find diddly on a 'PM' filter.

The Wix 51085 should be the right PN for the Hemi in your truck (it is in my '04 Hemi 4x4).

The filters both have similar gasket sizes and the same 3/4 internal threads. It seems like someone just put a smaller filter on your truck. When you say it was 'too big' did it physically hit something, or was it just larger than what was on the truck?

Bigger filter = better.

I too have noticed this when performing oil changes. I now just take my truck to my mechanic and even he said there are 2 different sizes (for whatever reason) on these trucks/engines. I find it strange.

The new trucks come with the small ones, but the larger ones fit as well. Just a little harder to fit in there. I was told the older hemis only fit the bigger filter, but if you've been using the small ones the information I received may have been incorrect.
