Just wondering what you guys are seeing for oil pressure on your PW?

I had my engine replaced this spring because of low oil pressure
Now my new engine is doing the same thing. Idle pressure is good, about 29 psi. Running along at 100km/h it was 53psi. In the last week it has slowly dropped off to 38psi at the same engine speed. I changed the filter to see if it was plugged. It didn’t help at all. Thoughts?

oh and I am running amsoil 0w40 and amsoil filters. I cut apart the filter I removed and it was clean with no filings

Man that still seems low. I see mid 50s crusing and idle at 34.

Best thing I can suggest is to do a compression and leak down test. Just to make sure the motor is healthy.

Did you use the old oil pump from the last motor?

No. The dealer installed a long block. They had to replace the engine after they ruined it by doing a dirty job replacing my lifters.

Can I ask exactly what happened with the failure and your lifter repair?

When they had the engine apart they didn’t flush the oil pan afterwards. Plugged 3 oil filters in a month. Oil pressure just kept going down. I cut the filters apart to find dirt, silicon and metal. Took the whole bottom end out.

Take that **** back! If the botched it the first time. I could see them saving the new oil pump for a different customer. Along with a bunch of other stuff. It would be nice to remove the oil pan and see what the lick up tube looks like

I know they used a new oil pump. I stopped by several times while they had my truck in the shop. I’m a heavy equipment mechanic. So I made it very clear that I knew what was going on and that I would be checking their work.
The engine has been fine since April till now. Has about 40000km on the new long block. The oil pressure has dropped off just over the last week. I’ll check it with a mechanical gauge to be sure it’s not just a sensor.
It’s all very frustrating as this is my work truck for my mobile heavy equipment repair business

If you put it in tow/haul mode to disable the MDS do you see the same pressure drop?

Something is odd for sure. If the replaced the oil pump when they did the long block then basically everything that could realistically cause this kind of pressure loss has been replaced.

Just out of curiosity, is there any way some of that **** could still be hanging out in the oil cooler and lines? If there was enough **** in it last time to cook it, it stands to reason that there may be some **** in that system since it would be original?

Just a thought. I am sure you checked it already, but something just seems off. No way it should do the same thing again.

Disclaimer- I have no idea how this cooling system functions, but I do know how they function on some of my older stuff.

I'm running about 37psi on my 2020 PW at 1800 RPM. Using Amsoil.
I have around 10,000 miles on it now. At 500 miles they had to replace rear main seal, and I believe oil pan gasket. There was a slow oil leak when I brought home.
You guys think I should take in? I thought this psi was low, but have never had a 6.4L prior to this one.

I don't let mine idle very much, and I've never checked my idle oil pressure.

HOWEVER, I've been running Mobil 1 0W40 since my first oil change, and routinely see 53-57 psi cruising at 55ish mph. There was ONE oil change where I think they used a different brand of oil because I forgot to specify what I wanted, and for about 3500 miles, maybe the full 5000, the highest I saw was about 45psi. It worried me, but the pressures came back up to the normal range after my next oil change.

Basically what I'm saying is that yes, your pressure seems pretty low, and to have it just recently drop off like that is worrying. I'd have someone look at it ASAP.

Ok good. so you have PLENTY of knowledge on this. let us know if you do a compression check. because like you said, it could also be a sensor. low oil pressure is nothing to beat around the bush with though right?

As also mentioned. I hope they changed the oil cooler also. basically anything that has to do with the oil system should be replaced when you have an engine failure.

I don’t think they changed the oil cooler, which in my line of work on Diesel engines is a big no no.
Truck is heading back to the dealer this week. I shouldn’t have to touch it where as the new long block has 2 years unlimited mileage warranty.
Although being a mechanic, I hate other techs working on my stuff. I have pretty high standards

There is only 3000km on the oil. Amsoil can run up to 40000km. Shouldn’t be breaking down yet

Oil sending unit replacements are common on hemi. Maybe they used a crank that was turned down and out of spec on a couple of the journals. We had a little 2.8 chevy motor like that once.We just ran it anyway. We never wore it out,we ended up selling it tho.

Sorry- I am diesel retarded. Are you saying it's a no-no to NOT change the cooler or a no-no to change the cooler?

They didn't replace it with a crate motor? I have never seen a dealer with an engine shop where they do those things required to rebuild an engine. I bet they sent it out to substandard engine builder who didn't know what they were doing.
