Well I just ordered up some PUP 5w20 and Frams finest. Then I will know what's in there.
I also have 3 motorcycles, an X3, an E46 330, a tractor, a snowblower, a lawnmower, a big boat and a little boat. I will find a home for the 10w30 M1.

Mat I run RL 10-40 in my 5.7. BUT,,it has 230k miles and summer temps are 100+ Winter only 30F. In your part of the country 5-30 makes sense to me.

It is almost not fair to compare redline to other oils as esters/pao will pour down 30 degrees lower. That is why those pour tests are so cool, you see 5w30's cloud up (first sign of oil failing) and you see the 0 weights crystal clear, the only difference is the redline 5w30 which is even better then the 0w30's because of it's base oil. Soon at it hits -20 you see the 5w30's cloud but redline stays clear. It is the science pure and simple, I'm sure other ester or pao based oils would perform the same or similar.

Does everyone use synthetic oil?

I use 5w-30 AmsOil Synthetic XL in my ‘17 1500 4X4, 5.7 w/3.92 rear.

Drained the break in oil at 500 miles, ran almost 8K miles before the oil monitor reached the 25% mark. Right on track for another 8K this time around too. Been 2200 miles since my last oil change and the monitor reads it’s at 75%.

Been using AmsOil Synthetic for all my vehicles for nearly 10 years now. Plan to continue to do so with this truck as well.

I think most do, I honestly don't know anyone on this forum running full conventional.

What about 0-40, anyone run that stuff??

My 6.4 is on a steady diet of Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0w40; just hit 14k driving in to work today. Engine is whisper quite. The 6.4 does shear the oil down quickly, it's very thin at 5k miles.

It always amazes me that there are car & truck owners who think they know more than the oil engineers and factory engine designers when it comes to choosing an oil.

For my 2009 Hemi the factory says to use 5W-20 because of the MDS. So that's what I use. What qualifies me to overrule the engineers? Why would they recommend one oil when they know another oil would work better?

The other oils (and weights) used by some of the posters on this thread possibly do work but unless you are building a racing engine where all the clearances are changed and load demands are different, just stay with the recommended oil.

There is a great deal of difference as to the motor oil needed for a 2015 and a 2019 engine as anyone following the changes mandated by the feds to improve fuel economy would know - only been in the press for the past 3 years. Using a heavier weight oil than the manufacturer recommends for your model year engine is good for two things, increased engine wear and decreased fuel economy.

As for the oil to use it too depends on when the engine was manufactured. With older engines a dino oil that meets the API base stock performance standards is all that is needed. For the newest engines a blend is the best choice unless you like to throw away money in response to advertising claims (worked so well for the people who bought STP, the "racer's edge"). Clearly the advertising works as people are happy to spend an extra $15 a gallon for their oil.

What most people are ignorant of is that leaded gas damaged engines as well as people's brains and taking lead out of gas in the 1970's resulted in a 100,000 mile engine being commonplace in recent decades. Some gains in durability from better alloys but most of the gain was from de-leading gasoline. With leaded gas I would be re-gapping spark plugs every 3,000 miles and replace them at 10,000 miles, but with unleaded gas in my vehicles I go 100,000 miles and then replace the plugs.

How did leaded gas damage the engines ?

Just a guess but for $43 at the dealer you're probably getting conventional oil out of a 55 gallon drum, cheapest they can find.

Read your manual. I just got a 2016 Hemi and says use 0W-20 7 quarts.

I have been using AMSOIL 5W20XL engine oil in my 07', but since I turned MDS off, my next oil change will be using AMSOIL 5W30XL engine oil. Capacity for the 07' Hemi 5.7L is 7 quarts.
