What’s the engine oil capacity for the 5.7 hemi with a filter change? Also, what does everyone prefer for the weight?

My 2013 takes about 0.5-1.0 gallon more than the manuals says to have the level on full mark of dipstick. I like 5-30 redline

7 quarts of 5w30 redline oil is the only oil for the hemi expensive but makes the truck run much smoother/quiet
I haven't driven much on my 5w-30 redline, but it definitely is quieter on the engine. My 16 rebel runs like a scalded ape! I have lots of mods too though! I live in SE Texas, so that was my choice for the redline. Always had better luck with that weight.

Yes my last run was 10w30 and I think that is rlk's oil of choice. Go ahead as long as you are not in freezing temps. That must be some story still having factory oil 3 years later, get it out. Read the oil filter thread in my sig. 0w30 m1 is a great choice if you are in freezing temps.

I wouldn't use 10w30 in freezing temps, it makes a huge difference, see for yourself. In fact 5w30's aren't great either, unless pao/esters then they are the best for cold flow, see for yourself :)

It's not factory oil. The truck had a fresh service from a chevy dealer before I bought it. I just don't know what it is. 20/50 for all I know.
It's just starting to get real cold here in CT. We will have a below zero streak at some point.
Maybe I better get me some proper oil so I know whats in there.

If you look at a viscosity chart it will convince you that you can use 10w30 in the cold, the only problem is that just because you "can" use it, maybe it is not a good idea. Because as it gets cold the 10w30 will flow much slower at start up then a 0w30. Hemi's just do not like this, I can promise you that after hearing the mopar brotherhood speak the last 6 plus years on it.
