so somehow I’ve managed to make my automatic transmission gear selection square disappear to start. So it will not start and is stuck in 4 low as well which I’m sure won’t come out of because I cannot start it without a selector square any ideas what the f I’ve done or what I need to replace to have a transmission selection again?

Ok, are you trying to say....you've misplaced the gear selection square?

Maybe someone else here could chime in and help...not sure I understand the question to begin with. lol

When did this happen? Were you shifting from park to drive and it just disappeared, or did it happen out of nowhere one day when you got in the truck?

things just went blank? I'd look for a wiring harness that can unplugged or damaged wiring.

It may not start because it doesn't see the signal from the neutral safety switch. Neutral safety switch tells the ecm the trans is in park or neutral and its OK to start. The ecm may think the trans is in gear, hence the no start condition. I'm not sure why the shift indicator box would disappear.

Did you check all fuses, inside and out?

Does the shifter move through the gears or is that stuck?

Is there a shift lock override on that style shifter? I assume there's one somewhere. The shifter in my truck is floor mounted. Maybe try running the shifter through all the gears?

So you were in 4L going from reverse to drive?
As mentioned, the Neutral safety switch could be issue.
Is it shifting into each gear? (key in the run position) Make sure to check the linkage, if it is shifting

Have you tried to put a code reader on it?

You could also try disconnecting your battery for a bit, about hour, then reconnect, see if it may reset.

So I bought a range selector switch well 2 of them both kinds. I cannot for the life of me find where it goes on this year it is a 2004 5.7 Hemi. I even took the pan off dropped the guts still haven’t found this dam neutral safety switch or the range selector I’ve spent probably 8 hours looking and taking the transmission apart. Any ideas where it’s located on this particular year guys. I can’t even find a video on this particular year wow.

I’ve tried cycling all switch’s and the shift lever messing with e brake taking dash apart totally lost on finding this range finder it has to have one right it would definitely be the problem. The door alarm is going nuts when the battery is plugged in. I’ve heard that’s an indication it’s the range selector. There are no wires damaged or connectors hunted the entire truck 5 times on that.

I was never a Ram tech, but i think the selector switch should be mounted on the outside of the trans housing, usually on the side.

The highlighted square that normally surrounds the gear selection number is not there because the Transmission Control Module (TCM) does not recognize the manual gearshift selection.

This can be a number of things, but primarily:

* Check for an open IOD fuse in the Power Distribution Center (PDC)

* Check the transmission shift cable for binding

*Faulty Transmission Range Selector Switch (TRS). Based on your vehicle description you have the 545RFE transmission. In 545RFE transmissions the TRS is in the valve body.
