I would have used an Illusion Carbon C12. If you want shallow depth why not go straight to the best on the market?

How long will it be till you find a good deal on a 13TW5 that they are compared too . Just saying I know your hardships as well buying audio gear on impulse.

Hopefully never.... cuz then ill prob buy it lol. Ill keep an eye out for you though. If you hang out in the DIYMA classifieds theres always top of the line gear being thrown around.

Ewwww...you got a pair of mw172's?
I think you may love them.
The MS8 is great for set it and have fun!!!
By far, the best auto tune on the market! Plus, you can always make small tweeks after the auto tune does its thing...
I want to listen to this system....

Hopefully I love them so I can quit chopping up my doors.

Im in the same boat as you......I would like to listen to this system as well. lol. so much time building and installing i rarely just enjoy it. which also is the reasoning behind the ms-8. when i try and fine tune i usually do more harm than good.

I had an eye out for one, but basically came down to $300 vs. $1000. It seems im just dumping money into this one but i usually have sales or at least interests in gear im exchanging for to try to re coup some of the cash.

The C12XL retails for about $1000. The C12 shallow is much cheaper. There have been four C12XL's on DIYMA recently for $600 each.

Went and picked up the sub today at lunch... installed it in the parking lot LOL. I literally had like 20 min to listen to it on the ride back to work. All i did different was turn the gains down since its now running at 2 ohm. I need to shrink the box a little more before start beating it up. Sounds Very promising from what i heard thus far...

Here she is... need a little work to make the panel fit though...

.................

part of the deal with the sub was that I had to do a review on it. if youre interested in the details...

BradKnobs go at the Stereo Integrity BM MKIV - Car Audio | DiyMobileAudio.com | Car Stereo Forum

Good initial write up on the sub (sucks those guys started talking Chevy trucks in the middle of it :( ).

Very interested to see how you like it as you get it tuned and broke in. Really wish I was close enough to hear it in person. I really like the sound of 12s but could not find any shallow mount ones that I liked.

Thanks, quite the thread jack tho. lol. Im tryinfg to delay the review until I get the MS-8 installed which hopefully will be within the next week or so.

Ill tell you this... it def does not sound like a shallow sub. Granted you wont be rattling teeth or be heard from 3 blocks away, but its a super smooth sounding sub. cant wait for DSP to be in.

And the reason I scooped em for $150. Guys kid rubbed cone with a toy. No functional damage. I almost feel like I robbed him.,,

Thats what i like to hear.

How tight was the fit with your 650s and where did you cross them? The 172s are about .4" deeper.

Im fairly creative and handy so my wife assumes i can/want to recreate every little POS pinterest craft she sees. Damn you pinterest:chair:

Well my first set was the mw162 and there was not much trimming at all. I basically made an acrylic "6x9" plate (had acrylic left-overs so I used it) and mounted the speaker...no rings or anything. Then, the 650's have the same mounting holes and it was a very simple swap. Be ready for a light trim....but I wouldn't be too concerned. I'll have to check my current cross over points but I think they're at 83hz-2k

^^^ thx. Reason i ask was that I had a set of Image dynamics XS-69s which were 3.7" mount depth and they were too deep. Couldnt get the door panel back on without smashing it against the cone and rubber surround.
