Good day,

I hail from the VW Scene. Iv got a device called a ***-Com (VCDS), This device connects to the OBD port, and into my laptop. It allows me to do all kinds of configuration of the cars options. It also lets me do diagnostics, of the various components. Is there a device like this for the Rams? My VW is a 2003, Id figure 10 years later... there would have been some development for other manufactures.

With the ***-Com, I am able to set my readiness, change how the horn, lights, key fob, locks, and radio all function. I was also able to enable or disable features like auto up and down windows and sunroof with the fob, and DRL's. It was quite a GREAT tool, that I still use quite often when working on other peoples vehicles. Iv got a lot of friends with VW's, and hope to get a lot of friends with Rams.

Not that I heard of for the Ram's but sounds great. Would beat having to go into the dealer and pay a ridiculous fee to get something programmed...

in the ram world there are only a few sales codes that the dealer can even change. many of them it requires chrysler to change them, and most likely they wont.

the problem with chryslers is (i believe but may be wrong) is first you need to change it in the corporate system, then flash the computer.

A lot of things can indeed be changed via the OBD-II port, problem is, it takes a Chrysler service department diagnostic computer to do so. Maybe someday someone will crack the codes, but I haven't heard of it yet. Best we can get is a handheld tuner that allows us to tweak a/f ratio, ignition, shift points, and similar items; but nothing that allows us to get into control of other features.

The only thing that I know of is called the star scan. It will run you a couple grand. But dont know how far into tweaking performance it does. But it also depends on the year of truck you are working on. 11-13 is limited to bullydog and Diablo sport. 09-10 bullydog, Diablo sport, and superchips. Those are also the big 3 for other years. If you get into diesel trucks than custom tuning becomes a lot easier. But the cost is still there. H&S I believe is the only tuner that allows custom tuning option (w/mcc unlock) but you will need the software to do it. Im not sure off hand what its called.

I also come from the VW/ Audi scene. 2 VWs, and 1 2010 Audi, with all my brother in laws also in old and late model VWs/Audis. I have alot of experience with my VagCom and I havent tried it yet on the my new Ram, but I know that my new 2014 Express has several Can-Bus styled interfaces that may work with it.

ill try it tonight and report back on what works or not.

There are a ton of computer stuff on the new Rams and if there are computers, they can be hacked! Maybe you could increase the fuel and airflow into the Hemi with that laptop?

I'm going through this right now...I am actually on hold with Chrysler on the phone, trying to get ahold of their engineering/tech people so that some sales codes can be changed for me. What I've learned so far is that the service manager at your dealership needs to have his tech advisor contact Chrysler an re-build your configuration program to what you're asking for. They don't like it, but they'll do it, have done it, and if you hold them to it---they'll do it again. I'm cutting out some of the middle man to get answers and to create a case ticket, so when I take it in for BCM reprogramming, we don't start over from step 1.

Aside from that, man, a Diablo tuner or similar will give you the ability to change some performance settings, but the stealership holds the key to other changes, unfortunately.

There has to be a way, the gentleman who did the VagCom / VCDS system worked long and hard to figure out what he needed to do. and its just a matter of swapping out bit codes one up or one down. Its gotta be possible.

Currently the dealers are the only ones with the correct computers and access to the chrysler site that you need access to to be able to change anything.

on top of that only a few codes are available at the dealer level to change.

i too came from the Audi world, and the guys at Ross-tech spent years prefecting the VagCom software.

I reallly don't think its gonna happen for Dodge/RAM anytime soon
