Was attempting this tonight on my 2015 Ram 1500 Express (afaik - bought used...)

I programmed the vehicle via AlfaOBD and I believe that all took. When I hit the remote start on my keyfob the dashboard light up as well as the lights on the panel shifter, but does not start - nor throw any on-screen errors indicating the hood is open. Based on the video from BlueRam (linked previously) I may not have the proper wiring going back to the BCM.

A lot of reading - but this thread has all the info you need,

@Mpgrimm2 might be able make the harness you need if you don't want to try and tackle it yourself

You can ground out the PIN at the BCM to get it working. Did you do this or just turn it on? If you want the complete upgrade, @Mpgrimm2 is definitely your huckleberry.

If you're talking about installing a resistor on the BCM itself or (as I saw someone else mention) wiring to ground against the parking break, I did not. I think I want to at least try one of those first to know for sure everything else is working before spending any more on the harness. I'll read through the entirety of the other threads; I think I saw a post that had a pic of the BCM

Fair enough, I took that same route. @Mpgrimm2 should be able to tell you what you need from those pics you provided (I can't remember myself).

So many threads covering this mod. I intend to dig into this deeper over the turkey day break when I should have a few extra days off from work.

What I'm confused on is the resistors and grounding.

Some of the threads say to complete the hood latch circuit either with the proper latch OR using a resistor to trick the BCM into thinking it sees a closed hood latch, AND grounding out pin 11 on the BCM up under the dash above the parking brake pedal.

Other threads say that ONLY thing you have to do is ground Pin 11 straight to body ground.

And then there are threads that say to ground Pin 11 to ground, through a resistor.

So like...Which is it? This would be for a 2020 Classic.

If you have AlfaOBD and do not wish to complete the circuit using OEM parts, you simply ground Pin 11 and make the necessary changes in AlfaOBD. No resistors are necessary at any point in this upgrade if you have AlfaOBD as you can change the resistance setting.

You will also need to check and see if you have the violet/ striped wiring from the hood latch to the front-end connector under the PDC at pins 5 & 6 on 1500 (1 & 2 for 2500/3500) on both sides... Could be missing from the latch to the PDC and/or from PDC to BCM. There are numbers next to terminals at the back of the connector if you look closely.

Screenshot_20251126_091936_Outlook.jpg
...
(It looks like you're missing wiring on 5&6 on one side (I can't tell male vs female terminal side in your pics).

Note:
There are 2 different hood latch part numbers (1500 vs 2500) with different resistance values/settings needed in AlfaObd. both are physically interchangeable. Here's what I usually share with people to do using the following hood latch and full wiring back to BCM pin 11 and one side to ground (after going through hood latch assembly).

* WARNING *
It is not safe to simply ground the BCM pin 11 input without going through hood latch!

1) the engine could start without warning while working on/near it with hood open.

2) I personally do not like the idea of grounding out a digital input to any controller that I don't know the internal specs of .... especially without using some sort of inline current limiting resistor to avoid damage. It may be fine if the engineers added one internally at the BCM but I do not know. It may be fine for awhile and fail at a later point... up to you.

Don't you have to follow a pretty specific procedure to activate the remote start? like, lock the doors and hit the button twice? What are the chances that happens accidentally while working on the truck?

and what is this about resetting the RF hub? I am just now reading that on one of the threads.

Just hit the button twice, no need to lock the doors beforehand. Chances are greater than zero, which is more than likely to happen with my luck

When you press the remote start button twice it will lock the doors automatically.

Good day team.

In reading through this and a couple of other threads on remote start I don't see anyone with a 2011 (2009 to 2012). All seem to be 2013 on up.

I looked at my truck, 2011 1500 5.7 ST RCSB 4x4, at the hood latch area and I don't see any sort of wiring at all. The ST trim models are VERY low level where a steering wheel and tires seem to be an option. However they do seem to have the same BCM and other onboard computers as all of the other trim models, just missing some wiring harnesses.

Is the procedure to get remote start to work on a 2011 1500 ST the same as the great amount of info in these threads? I don't have AlfaOBD yet but it's on my purchase list as it seems to be a necessity for customization.

Any helpful advise would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Yes- it can be done - see this thread,

and also do a search for remote start thru this thread, it will get you going

I just walk out to my truck and start it. The only resistor I have is the resistance to going outside when it's really cold and starting it. I'll see myself out.

So, previously in here it said the connector for Pin 11 is the upper left. Is it the one circled? or was the description meant as "If you're upside down looking up at it"?

If it's the one I have circled, how does that locking mechanism work? I couldn't figure it out looking up at it in the dark with limited access space.

My plan is to ground pin 11 so that the remote start works, but I'll have a toggle switch in-line. Any time I'm working on it or if I take it to a dealer for work, I'll flip the switch to disable remote start.

That's it. If you look at the plugs below it its easier to see. That gray locking tab on top slides forward/up to release the connector.

You can also get a better view by removing the driver left HVAC vent cover.
