I need some input. I'm having a overheating issue in my 2011 4.7 140k. I'm constantly checking oil and overflow tank to make sure it's not a head gasket issue. But I do hear a gurgling noise at the heater core on start up so I'm guessing there's trapped air in the system. also the fan clutch feels weak.I have a clutch, water pump and thermostat on the way. so I figured I'd change them all out a bleed the system and should* fix my issue.

Is your radiator covered in gunk and/or oil? Smelling sweet smell? Engine oil is ok?

Oil clean, no sweet smell, no damp carpet or "fog" on windshield when defrost is on. I didnt notice anything on the radiator last time I looked at it when I replaced my ac condenser/ trans cooler that was cracked in half.

Did the over heating coincide with the cracked ac? does it overheat most the time the ac is on? so no compressor oil all over radiator fins?

no the ac was broken when I got the truck in the middle of winter 2.5 years ago. found out it was the ac condenser in front of the radiator. Doesn't matter is ac is on or not it will start to over heat20180915_134418.jpg

I think I would have checked thermo stat fist, but see if that fixes it. Was coolant ever changed? could be some slime, rmi 25 it before swapping coolant!!

If you put new coolant but the system is slimy, the system stays slimy.

Its only 20 more minutes to replace the fan clutch that with that age and miles will fail soon enough. But I agree, the thermostat is where Id start.

I know it has green coolent in it so I'm guessing it's been swap since I think rams come with hoat coolent. but there's no slime on the radiator cap or expansion tank. I'll know once I pull this tstat off if it's all gummed up

There is no detergents in coolant, that is their downfall. Coolants populate the metal surface, so they don't want detergents as it takes longer for them to do so. But lack of detergent leads to slime if you don't stay up on fluid changes. rmi 25 flush great idea before you start this work.

If i understand this right and your heat in the truck doesn't work i lean toward air in the heater core. Since i had similar issues with Subarus, i like to use the bleed technique of backing the truck down a small incline with the front higher than the back and slowly pouring your fluid in to avoid as many air bubbles as possible. Especially if you are hearing gurgling/sloshing in the dash heater core area. Possibly even have to take a heater hose off under the firewall and pour fluid in that way to get the air out.

furthermore rmi25 will let you know if slime was the problem in the first place. It will show up in overflow after running the engine warm for a while. do you have a black over flow tank? those suck, but you can still see it with flashlight.
