Hello all, been a while since ive been on the forum (busy fishing). Ive recently been quite intrigued with the idea of overlanding in my SRW 16 3500 as Ontario has alot of kettle lakes with logging/fire roads to them. My question(s) are as follows. Has anyone on here done a overland 3500 rig and if so what are the first 5 mods you would suggest (cant delete truck as ontario says its illegal). what tire size would be good 35,37? is it better to go with a smaller rim for overlanding say maybe 18"(i have 20" stock). i would like to keep as much of my payload as possible so is there a go to for certain tires. i Dont have a picture of my truck on hand so ill take one before work tomorrow. thanks in advance for the tips and info, i really enjoy the topics on this forum.

I'm smack dab in the middle of doing a quasi overland budget "build" with my '18 2500. I found that 20 inch wheels gave me a better payload capacity of 3700 lbs over the 18 inchers unless I went the expensive route. Another member here recommended a site and I got all four wheels and TPMS for less than $400. I will be purchasing some 35*12.50 ridge grapplers soon, they have a load range F. Plus I added air lift bags to the rear, all in order to maintain as much capacity as possible. Good luck on your build....looking forward to following along.

285/75r18 (34.8"), 295/70r18 (34.2") and 295/65r20 (35.4) give you 4080lb load rating.

Thanks for the info. Nice PW, as promised here's my truck. Not many upgrades, mostly looks. Spline lugs, carhartt seat covers, step bars, and a highrise truck cap.

I'm intrigued. Want to follow this thread. What kind of budget do you have and what are your top priorities and mods with an overland rig?
