Hello -
My engine light came on and the scanner is coming back with p0128. The engine was running a little hot and when I turned on the ac or heater i would smell something in the car, like a plastic bag burning. I had my radiator replaced a year ago.

Googling around makes it seem like its the Thermostat that needs to be replaced because it is stuck open. What do you guys think? Also does anyone know where I can buy one? online the prices vary wildly so it makes it tough to pick one.

I have the same code my ram I can idle for 5 mins then drive 5 mins to coffee shop and sit in drive thru for 10 mins and it still only at 164F, but it's winter time here. Aftermarket thermostats are hit and miss, OEM best if in stock.

You think if the thermostat was stuck open your engine would run hot? Water pump maybe, or thermo stuck closed. This isn't a small thing, I would investigate this before driving it anywhere.

Update: This code is still showing up. I got no where with 2 different thermostats. I went to a dealership and they hooked up there machines to clear the code but the p0128 still came up. they told me that the thermostat is stuck in the open position. i cant believe that the part cost almost 500 bucks for the OEM. does anyone know where i can get a 2013 3.6l ram 1500 thermostat with the integrated housing? or does anyone know if there is a upgrade kit perhaps? im willing to try almost anything. short of paying the dealer 500 bucks for the part, and 2k for the labor.
