Yeah, I'm afraid that it might be...It could be mechanical.
I also saw that the control valve for the vvt can trip a P0344 code, but I don't know how to isolate that component for testing.

Anytime i've ever ran into gray sludge that looks like that,somethings usually starting to go south inside the engine. In a hemi it's usually an indicator the cam and lifters are starting to go south. Just my 02,but i wouldn't be surprised if you start to have cam issues in another few thousand miles.UPDATE: I finally got some time today to play in the garage. I pulled the Camshaft Position Sensor, and the tip of it was all fouled up by some kind of grey..... something.
Almost seems like it was moly grease?

So either the plugs are toast, or it's a trashed cam
