"I know at certain temperatures outside the auto AC behaves differently though. Maybe it's just not hot enough outside anymore for it to kick on right now?"

I was thinking this as well. The trouble is, if it's sunny and, say, 60 degrees, the inside can be 90. Cracking the windows helps a little but this IS Illinois, meaning it could rain any day, especially when The Weather Channel says it won't, lol.

@Dean2 , thanks dude. I'll give that a try! I tested it this morning (without making this change) and when I opened the door after remote start, nothing was running but turned on as I entered the truck. I'll try your suggestion.
And thanks for the ambient temp clarification.

Would anyone happen to know what this connector is for? The entire cubby has been removed and this was hanging inside. It's freaking out Buzz!

Sort of looks like a factory harness, but I'm afraid you're going to need to remove the escutcheon bezel to find out where it goes. Maybe the guy in the cup holder can help you!

I'm afraid Buzz won't be much help, but he does make me smile :)
I thought maybe the harness was left over from something taken out of that opening, but it does look factory. I just can't find anything that doesn't work. I was thinking about replacing the radio anyway, so I'll have a look then.
Thanks Dusty.

Ahh, this maybe. It is listed on my window sticker and I don't see it anywhere else. I guess the original owner really liked this thing.

Yup, that's what is in that spot on my 2015. Oddly enough, it was missing on mine as well when I bought it. No idea why the previous owner would just remove it.

Yeah, kinda' weird, huh? I haven't looked yet but maybe they're expensive? Or maybe they break easily and fall to pieces.

I've seen a few people remove them to swap in a receptacle with USB plugs. Maybe the previous owner did the same, kept the USB receptacle, but lost the original?

If I remember correctly, the replacement was only about $35 at the local dealership, but that was back in 2017.

Hey guys, I have a check engine light already. It's not flashing, so that's good, but do I need a scan tool? I know the 3rd gens had a key procedure for accessing the codes. Do the push-button 4th gens?
The timing of this purchase wasn't great. It's already cold and windy outside and this beast won't fit in my shop so that I can give it a good going-over. It's too tall. Maybe I could let some (or a lot) of air out of my tires?

So, how have you made out figuring out the climate controls and remote start. Any other updates on the other electrical Gremlins.

I hate to say it but from your growing list of issues it doesn't sound like you looked this unit over all that close, ignored the lack of paper work and maintenance history and did not have an independent go over it in detail. Saw shiny black paint and bought it on appearance. I REALLY hope all the issues turn out the be minor and easily fixed.

I never could figure out how to schedule a test drive and have it inspected on a lift. I crawled under it, went under the hood as best I could, started it cold and listened for the tick (and anything else), drove it about 8 miles in town and in the country. I checked the carfax and it has a great maintenance schedule and no reported problems. But I should have wondered why a person would trade it in with 60k miles and no rust.
I'm not real worried, though. If I can get some decent weather (and some time) I'll go through the fuse/relay box, check the codes, start loosening the O2 sensors, etc. I'm pretty good at the mechanical, but wiring....? not my favorite. I did rebuild my '71 Olds Cutlass, including the engine so I'm not a total newb. But it doesn't need a code reader :)

Just a guess, but I believe the connector is for the power outlet that's no longer there.

They're still available for 30 bucks or so. Ebay has a handful. Maybe less at a scrapyard.
Amazon has them for $16. Is it silly that I don't really care if it works? I just want to fill the hole and not have a connector flopping around in there. I don't really plan on using a hair dryer in my truck (or anywhere else) :laughing1:

Anything electrical, even an outlet, I'd spring for a quality part. I don't want Chinesium knockoffs causing issues, and given some of their chargers have set fire due to shorts... Low odds, high stakes to save $15 or whatever.

I installed running boards today. I could barely get in it's soo tall, and my wife couldn't get in at all with her bad knees. It was more of a pain than I had hoped, especially on a gravel driveway. I had to chase the bolt hole threads since they'd never been used but other than that, it was pretty straight forward. I also touched up some paint on the bottom of the pinch welds but they're in really good shape for an 8 year old truck.
The underneath has a good coat of undercoating, although I'm not a fan of the black tarry stuff. I'm going to remove the looser stuff and give everything a good coat of fluid film. But I'm hoping to get it into the shop for this. I'm getting too old to crawl around on my shoulder blades, lol.
I also ordered a code reader. My money on is on an O2 sensor.
