Let me quantify this: my bad, been a kazillion years. U had to press the ebrake pedal down to engage on the T-Bird. When U put in gear, it released. had to sit and think about it. That T-Bird had a POS 390 in it, was mostly always unda the hood. I should have went and got a 351 Cleveland and put in, but alas, U know, that was like 72???? LMAO. Senility and Dementia reigns supreme, LMAO.....
jedco: I only ever saw it on that T-Bird. I heard, but not seen that those old Monster Olds Toronado's had something like it, but cannot confirm... Just not in the mood to research frivolous info, ROFLMAO.. :devilfinger: Who knows, maybe them maxed out GM products could have been an option. But I's a Poor Boird. Only had like a 65 Buick Special, 73 GrandVille, 68 Cutlass (luved that ragtop, should have kept), vehicles like that. No supa dupa expensive *** cars like Riviera's and such, not when U pump gas or work in a factory at $2.01 an hour, LOL. Boy dem millenials have no clue. :doh2:

Pretty nice feature for the time even with it just being automatic on the release. My dad had a few toronado's, I'll have to ask him if he recalls the tilt thing being an option on them. I'm only 33 so I feel fortunate to have had my 66 for the past 17 years (almost), and it's come a long way since when we first bought it. Love all the old cars though and always have, when I was in middle school I was obsessed with trucks and muscle cars and it never went away. My Buick isn't a muscle car or a luxury car but it's an oddball that I almost never any others out there. Once in a while on ebay, that's been it for the most part.

Sounds like you had some nice ones along the way. My whole life people told me about cars they regretted selling, I took that to heart and it's my goal to hold onto my 66 and maybe be buried in it?

Update, So I stopped into the dealership to explain what happened with the parking brake the other day, They hooked it to the computer to see if it was "throwing" any codes, lo and behold it was. They "re flashed" the computer and sent me on my way. I hope that doesn't happen again.

^^^^^^^^^^^^ I do not think the Toronado's had tilt, but they had a ton of electric options in them, also if U remember, well maybe not, lol, but they were Front Wheel Drive I think.... Check this out: 68 for $5,900 OMG, wish I had the extry cash.

Here is another one, says $1,500, wow

Haha yeah I've known about the FWD for a while...and wow I really wish I was closer to the $1500 one in Louisiana...I would buy that right now in a heartbeat. It's so hard to find any car that nice up here, especially of that age.

Out of curiosity, do you know what code it was? Hopefully that fixes it for good, makes me wonder what made it trip the code in the first place.

The code was P1B13-00 ( park by wire unintended out of position), The repair order also states the software was out of date, Interesting.

That's interesting, first I can remember reading NE where that someone had a code thrown for a MY 19 parking brake issue. They have been out over a year now, ha ha, I actually bought MY 19 in August 2018...

P1B13 DODGE Park By Wire Unintended Out Of Park Position

Mar 12, 2018 - P1B13 DODGE Tech Notes Sometimes this code sets when the user is trying to move the shifter to Reverse, Neutral or Drive and the park pawl does not disengage within a calibrated amount of time.

Thanks for the information. As turkey mentioned, I haven't seen this issue pop up yet on the new 5th gens so hopefully this was a one time freak thing for you.

I bought my 2019 in May 2018, it has 16,500 miles on it, best riding/driving vehicle I have ever had, all of the electronics/computer controlled stuff makes me nervous though.

why bother them??
Earlier in this thread JD Martin noted that he lived in a mountainous area and finds this feature very useful which makes perfect sense. It may not be useful to everyone but it’s simple to turn off if it doesn’t happen to fit your needs.

I can see the application now that it’s been explained to me. My last house had a very step incline that I parked on...had to push the emergency break down every time I parked but with this system you just put it in park and the e-brake is automatically engaged. Great feature for those who have an application.

Are you guys talking about tilt steering wheel? up, down?
In the 1960-70's most cars had those unless base line, Olds did, all my Chrysler's and Imperials did as well Seem to remember my 1970 and 71 trucks did as well, 100 customs, been a long time.
The Fords in the 1960's had the swing away steering wheel, that pushed over to the center of the car, T bird and the 500's had that. I have put 1967-8 tilt wheels in 1950 's trucks ( the counsel ones, so you don't have the gear shift to mess with when doing floor shifts.
In this country ,I hardly ever use a parking break, but if you do, jam the thing on, so you can't drive away and burn it out. If you can drive it away, it is not set or buggered.
My old standards, and big trucks , used them all the time, so usually would not freeze, rust, lots of WD 40, use to buy it by the pail. Ice in old air break systems was a PITA

I turned my off the day I took possession of the truck. I found it to be the most useless technology on the 2019/2020 Ram. Others may have found a use for it - which I’d be interested to learn about - but I still can’t imagine how this could be useful to a driver.
Just about as bad as when you put it in reverse when the door is open and it slams into Park and won't budge until you close the door... that one really ****** me off as a lot of times as I like to open the door to see just how close I am to the curb or lining up in my driveway and other objects. It's simply a pain in the butt. Can I get the dealer to turn off that feature? It was done when I had it in for five, yes FIVE recalls recently.

"turkeybird56, post: 2178401, member: 68338"]JD CORRECT. Ready to roll, door closed, seatbelt on, Parking Brake will automatically release when placed in Drive. NOW, I do not live in a hilly area or ne thing, so I have the auto brake disabled. SO, If I think I need it, I have to put on manually and release manually UNLESS the above conditions are met (ie., park to drive, etc).

I was waiting for my wife this weekend and was playing with the the auto parking break feature in settings and thought this was pretty cool. I was then moving my truck in the driveway w/o my seatbelt on and it wouldn’t move...I said oh crap, it broke already! I then realized what the issue was and thought let me search the forum as I can’t be the 1st person to figure this out. As always, there was already a thread on this.
