I'd like to put after market bumpers on my 2018 Ram 1500 Bighorn. I bent the rear bumper and thought this would be a good opportunity to change it. The bend goes right through the hole where one of the sensors is. I expect they will need to replace that sensor. The body shop says even if they put an OEM bumper on they may need to get a specialist to calibrate the sensors to make them work correctly.

The dealer for aftermarket bumpers tells me whenever they change the bumper on a RAM the sensors may or may not work after the New bumpers are on. If they don't work there is no way to calibrate the RAM parking sensor system. They usually have to disable the system entirely. The two seem to conflict.

1. Can the parking sensor system be calibrated?
2. Is it possible to put on an after market bumper and make the parking sensors work?

I only know what I have been told. Has anyone replaced a sensor, or put a different bumper on their truck?

You were told wrong on both counts. There is no calibration and new bumper or aftermarket won't matter as long as hole locations are the same.

Just got it back last week. The rear bumper is on. Parking sensors are working. 2 different sales people said you can't get a front bumper with parking sensors holes. So I only did the rear. I think they just don't want to take responsibility if you hit someone and say the parking sensors didn't go off.

After the fact one of the workers at the body shop said as long as you keep the sensor in the same order on the new bumper they should work. 2 weeks and $700 labor. When I do the front bumper, it will be a DIY installation.

Wrongfully informed again.
I just got a Steelcraft Elevation bumper installed on my truck yesterday. It came with OEM fog lamp mounts, tow hooks and parking sensors. I’m battling an issue with two of the sensors detecting the pushbar of the bumper so I’m trying to navigate a solution for that other than completely disabling them.
I need someone to dabble deep inside AlfaOBD and find a way to turn off these two specific sensors and I’d have it made in the shade.
The bumper is bad to the bond though TBH. Here’s a link:
