So as some of you already know, I’m swapping in 2015 Sport Leather Buckets into my 2012 Ram 1500 Regular Cab.

I swapped over the SRS air bags from my 2012 into the 2015 seats, also swapped over the seatbelts and wiring.

I put them in my truck earlier but did not bolt them in yet as I still have to mount up my center floor console and radio bezel, etc.

But looking at my trucks wiring coming out of the floor plugs, I noticed I have a TON of wires on the driver side, but my stock seats have no plugs except the small yellow one for air bags. So my truck appears to have the full harness, even though my truck had manual seats and the only wires in them were the 2 for the SRS air bags. It appears the driver side plug coming out the floor does NOT have a solid red 12v wire in the plug, yet it appears the passenger side plug has the solis red 12v wire in the plug. How is this even possible? See pics below.

And here is the Passenger side plug coming out of the floor, showing the obvious solid red 12v power wire:

It seems extremely odd to me that a truck with no electric to either seats at all, aside from the yellow SRS plugs, would have the 12v on the passenger side only.

Also, isn’t it completely odd that the passenger side plug has 2 black with white striped wires going into 2 different pin locations? What?

I just don’t know what to make of any of this.

Oh, I also don’t see any solid black wires for a ground, anywhere on any of the many plugs under both seats. Did Ram for some reason make the grounds on the 2012 seat plugs black with a white stripe?

All regular cab trucks come with the full heated/vented seat and heated wheel harness. We are assuming the do this because they build so few regular cab trucks that they only make one harness for them. We have confirmed this on the 13 up trucks so I'm assuming your 12 is the same. You should also have the wiring for the power adjust on both sides plus the inverter thats mounted under the passenger seat.

Is your truck a regular cab?

Yes.

2012 Regular Cab 1500 ST.

There was a bunch of plugs under both seats coming from under the carpet, just clipped to the seat frame, with no plug in the other end (coming from seat). Since my seats had nothing in them except the SRS, so it appears my truck had the full harness running to the seats.

Yes I went back and looked and saw it was a regular cab and changed my post. All regular cab trucks come with the full harness that supports everything except memory. We are assuming it's because they build so few regular cabs that they only make one harness for all of them. You should have wiring for heated/vented seats on both sides plus power adjust on both sides and wiring for the power inverter that mounts under the seat on the passenger side. You should be able to figure out which wires are a constant 12v for your power adjust to work correctly. Unfortunately as mentioned earlier the 13 to 18 seats the heat and vent will not work in the factory configuration in your 2012 because the modules will not communicate with your truck.

Yea I figured that out, sucks but I’m ok with just having the nice seats and the heat/cool feature not working sucks but it’s w/e.

But if you look at the pics I posted in this post, where is the 12v power on the drivers side plug? There is no solid red.

Also, neither side had a solid black for ground. Is the ground the black with white line? I’ve never seen that combo as a ground before but I can’t find a solid black on either side of the truck, and only the passenger side has the thicker gauge solid red 12v, I don’t see one on the driver side.

The only wire on the drivers side that is a thicker gauge is the orange with a red line. Also the black with a white line is thicker gauge aswell, leading me to believe both are the pwr/grnd on the driver side.

Would you agree with this?

It's most likely is that wire. I would reccomend getting a multimeter and checking to make sure it has constant 12v power. On the 13 and up trucks you are going to want to attach the 12v power to the solid red wire in the yellow seat connectors in both seats. In the past we haven't had to hook up the ground in order for the seat adjustments to function. The seats are grounded to the truck. I would reccomend trying them without running a ground wire first. You can easily check the connectors in your truck to find the ground in your trucks harness if you end up needing it or you can run a ground wire directly to your truck.

Thanks bud. I don’t have a multimeter but I have to head to Ace Hardware in the morning anyways to pickup a handheld vacuum to clean my filthy carpets before I put my seats back in, so I’ll pick one up. I’ve needed one for a long time for all my headlight builds, I’ve gotten lucky and been able to wire everything off skill and double checking but there was definitely times I needed one to diagnose issues.

Thanks for all your help. I don’t think I’ll have any other issues with the seats going in, pretty sure I got it all figured out now. Only issue I may run into would be not having the correct bolts for the floor console brackets but I picked some up that I think are the right ones, if they aren’t I’ll just have to go get more.
