Anyone know of a shop in the DFW area where I can get my PCM unlocked same day or on the weekend.
It's for my daily driver so a quick turn around is required.

What I would do (or actually, what I did, or since your southern, done did) is buy a used PCM from a junkyard and ship that out to be unlocked and reprogrammed

This way I had about 5 minutes of actual downtime while I swapped em out and i had the added security of having a back up in case the truck didn't like the new programming, or it would need to go into the dealership or what have you

In fact, I've had the "new" one on for so long, I can probably sell the OEM for what I paid for the new one

I would do something like this ^^^^^^^^^

In my case, I opted for the whole HPTuners setup, where I downloaded my stock tune, and emailed that to HPTuners, and they loaded it into a brand new unlocked PCM. I got that and installed/swapped it into my truck in 5 minutes.... plus ..... as stated above, I have the IMMENSE and IMMEASURABLE peace-of-mind of having my stock PCM ready to put back into the truck in case of any problems.

I probably spent more money than you want to, but I would NEVER want to disturb or modify my stock PCM. I would keep that totally untouched. Buy a new one or a used one, then you can monkey around all you want.

You can probably find a junkyard PCM for cheap money. Then you just need to get it unlocked and programmed, but you can take your time and NOT WORRY about your truck getting bricked if something happens to the stock PCM.

Do the ones that need the bypass module/cable, 18+ I think, also have to be unlocked?

Just so I got this right, up to 2014 = unrestricted access
2015-2017 = need to be unlocked
2018 and up = Secure gateway module. Need a bypass cable

So, are the 2018 and up also locked, or is the bypass cable/module all that is needed?

18+ need to be unlocked as well

The 18and up basically use a second level of protection, like a moat around a castle


The bypass cable gets you across the moat, but you still need someone to open the gate (unlock it)
