In the course of doing the necessary repairs to my 2015 Ram 1500 SLT QC 5.7L 2WD with 111,000 miles, I completely overlooked the PCV valve.

Will be ordering one up for sure.

Anyone have one go out on their 4th gen? Symptoms?

Thanks.

Not on mine. 2014 79k, checked and cleaned it. Still looked good. Put it back in, since I didn't have one readily avail.

The most noticeable symptom of a bad PCV valve is your motor will start using more oil than it did before.

Any recommendations as to replacement? OE?

Kinda shocked when OE is $50.

If your pcv is clogged which is the only way they go bad, then you will have oil leaks somewhere on the block. Back in the day they had breather tubes coming right from valve covers. Now they want you to take what used to go through breather tubes to do a second burn. Without breather tube or pcv, your gaskets will leak, no way around it, and generally why valve cover gaskets are torqued lower the head gaskets. You would rather have that gasket fail, but when they fail it causes more issues and there is not only a release of pressure but often a vacuum as well, meaning debris can go into the engine. My guess is 9 times out of 10 you would have leaky valve covers if your pcv failed, probably the first sign would be those leaking onto pipes and burning which would alert you to the issue.

Funny you mention it. I got one on order as it's the last piece of emissions equipment that is still original. I'm wondering if it will fix a random misfire at idle that I've experienced off and on.

Funny you said that about leaks, when I did my manifolds this past weekend, I had a bit of oil staining on the rear outside corner of the passenger side valve cover.

Maybe it is time.

I changed mine out just as a routine maintenance item when I added a catch can at around 40,000km. O ring was cut and about to tear apart completely so I am glad I checked it

Got mine. Replace that sucker every couple of years!! When I pulled mine out it rattled just like the advice given.

My advice even if it rattles replace it anyway. It feels like the engine doesn't have to work as hard when replaced on schedule.
