All true.

IMHO, the next gen of Penta 3.6 will have DI with a good bit more TQ,,,

(Might be wishful thinking, but 330 HP and ~300~ TQ would really set the N/A V-6 truck work 'in motion'!!!!)

The more of 'em that are out there, the more probability of aftermarket support!

I say BRING IT ON!!!! The more, the merrier!!!!

I wish they would Twin Turbo it like the rumors that surfaced a while ago about a SRT-6 TT Journey!!!!

There's some days I feel like Turbo's are the way to go, and others when I'm not so sure,,,

I'm sure the times are a changing, but sometimes I feel like the stop-start / short drives I do would be best done in a N/A engine,,,

But then there are times when I feel like I'm pretty dang easy on stuff as it is, so no need to fret,,,

But, it is fun to watch and see the new stuff develop!!!!

Turbo's are definitely the way to go, ecoboost is the real deal but they should have called it something else. Better gas mileage and faster then the Hemi, stock anyhow. Give credit where it is due. If they gave it a badazz name, it might rule the market. Oh wait, it Ford does rule the market, carry on.

When I started this thread I didn't expect to get so many hits. Thanks for all the input from posters. For you Hemi guys, there are times I envy you except when I pass by the gas pumps.

The pentastar suits me fine for what I do. Just a very few occasions I thought I would appreciate the extra HP.

3.6L V6 - VVVROOM!
What I miss most about driving a V8 is the deep growl coming from the exhaust. However, during the 9 years that I drove V8 trucks, I don't think I ever towed anything that my 3.6L V6 wouldn't be able to handle.

Sitting at idle I was amazed at the sound by friends '14 V6 Ram had, almost sounded like a small V8, kinda bassy. One night when I first got my truck and had it parked side by side I could swear it was slightly louder at idle than mine when mine had the stock exhaust....

Hey, no hate from me. This is my first V8 in a long time.
Although I've have a boosted V6, the Pentastar is a very nice motor.

Co-works just got a Grand Cheekoe V6 and he his shocked how good the gas millage is. He bought it in Houston and drove it back to Baton Rouge and only used a half a tank..

6's are the way of the future,,, and then, we'll be running 4's,,,

200HP per liter is literally just around the corner,,, There will be no need for 4, 5, or 6 liter engines in 1/2 ton trucks eventually,,,

Volvo has a triple turbo'ed 4 banger they have tested that's very impressive!!!

Over 450 hp,,, from 2 liters,,, :

http://www.autonews.com/article/201...riple-turbo-4-cylinder-that-cranks-out-450-hp

It's basically a different version of the twin turbo + supercharged 4 they are selling right now:

The All-New XC90 | Specifications | Volvo Cars

So, a Penta sized 6 could be putting out 700 HP,,, a 5.7 would be just shy of 1200 HP,,,

Yup. We know of the ecoboost, but GM as the Twin Turbo 6 in the ATS-V

There was rumors of a TT Pentastar a couple years ago but a SRT something, but I guess that's not happening.

Which do you think will have the better resale value at 150,000 miles, the Hemi or the little turbo six?

Can't remember the source, but I've heard rumblings of a ~400~ CI twin turbo in the making,,, Supposed to be GM's response to the Hellcat engine,,, Put's out about 100 more hp as well,,,

But, I'm wandering a bit off the OT here! LOL!!!

I will say that I'm looking forward to the 5th Gen Rams,,, Love to see what they do with all the mills,,, IMHO, the Penta has the best overall design for advancement,,, The 5.7 will need a lot of work to take it to the next level,,,

The second I saw the thread title I knew someone would have to make the "get a HEMI" comment. The V6 does have it's place for sure. Sounds like everyone who buys one is very happy with it too. If you're a lighter driver that needs a truck for the occasional light load..? V6 FTW. And yes you'll drive by twice as many gas stations as us HEMI owners. But to say it's the BEST all around drivetrain? I dunno man. Askin for a flaming lol

That said.. there is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to mod ur truck no matter what engine is in it. That's why this forum exists.

Thanks for your understanding man. Really like open minds.

I puchased the KN 3.6L CAI and I am awaiting it's arrival. I will post on it once I have it installed. For Exhaust, I used the exhaust off a 2014 Sport and replaced my bumper with a dual cutout bumper off of another 2014 RAM.

After my first oil change (I used Royal Purple) I noticed an immediate MPG bump from 16.5 to 18.7 combined average MPGs (EVIC reading). I'm expecting another bump after I get the KN CAI on. I currently have a SPECTRE Air Filter installed in the stock air box but believe it or not I felt that the MPG when down after installing that!

Just wondering if you got that K&N CAI yet? If so how is it performing for you?

Amazon says it is supposed to be received by tomorrow but it hasn't even been shipped yet. I'll definitely update once it is in and installed. I may have to wait for my next tank of gas to give a good review though. I just filled up with E85 just to see how it is and I have watched the MPGs drop from 19.5 to 15 (and falling)...

Wow that's a big difference, E85 is cheaper gas?
Would appreciate an update when you receive it.

Ok, thus was a first for me. Amazon cancelled the order for the CAI and I had to place an order with another vendor. It ships on the 17 so it won't be installed until later this month.

The pentastar is a very nice engine. I'm about to buy a new AWD 300 with 3.6L - 8 speed combo.

I was surprised by how nicely it pulls that boat of a car, and it sounds a lot better than many V6 engines at higher RPMs.

My experience with K&N, it doesn't net you much power..more for sound. $300 for wooshy whistly sounds is kinda steep.
