New stroker kit. However this damage looks bad to me, think it will be ok to use?

I'd email or phone the people You got it from wee what they say. I've seen people use worse but it comes down to personal decision.

I wouldn't. If that gets worse while running it could take out the cylinder wall. Have it replaced while it's easy to do.

Things like this is why I only use places that offer 100% guarantee refunds, no way would I use that since stroker kits aint cheap. Just me. Probably would be fine, but I simply wouldn't use it. Could be an issue with forging and curing, I don't know that it isn't.

Always, our local Napa is like the best place on earth. Mechanics pro's and weekenders go there just to shoot the ****, lol. It may be a couple bucks extra, but you don't have to accept something that is damaged, lol.

Keep us up on how this comes out. Good to know what companies out there offer as far quality instead of quantity. We all make mistakes but i cant understand how something so expensive can get looked over like that. Surely they have some type of QA department that checks these things before they ship out. Im about to have a cam installed and thats my biggest worry that someone is going to put an "ok" part in instead of a "good" one. Good luck.

My fault for not checking pistons when they arrived, definitely could have happened at the machine shop. Could not rest well at night knowing about this piston flaw (haha). Called CNC bought a replacement piston.

So why did you buy another one versus exchanging the bad one? $142 is a lot of beer that could be bought to get you through the rebuild.

Negligible compression loss from a minor crash on the top side of a piston.

Now it’s a mighty fancy ash tray.

Yeah, if I would have inspected these pistons when they arrived from where I bought them then the company would have sent me a replacement, however I didn't inspect them until after my local machine shop gave my parts back to me, so I do not know when and how it became damaged.

If machine shop didn't visually see damage & report then it probably happened there.

If machine shop did the damage though I would be concerned about the quality of their work.

Our napa guys are pretty much ill educated kids that are part pullers...maybe 2 older fellas that do know stuff...never there at the same time.managers I would guess.
In the 2 stroke world that little ding would be considered a possible hot spot for the start of detonation...not a good thing...would suppose it could be the same for 4stroke....I dunno....I dont like it either.

You can shift blame all day long but the bottom line is why would you use a damaged part, one that is critical to the rebuild?
Just get another good one and sleep easier at night.. Knowingly using a deflective piston in a rebuild is not really smart.
