Because of a back pressure....? Feels like there should be more info here.
That's what they told me and it's a shop I've been going to for years but they got a new guy and no one has gave me a exact answer

Sounds like you need to find another exhaust guy.

The only thing I can think of is that he is claiming that there won't be enough back pressure once he replaces the Y pipe.

Putting in a new muffler or Y-Pipe can lessen pressure on the system and open it up a bit. That's not a bad thing.

Just my .02.

Many here have done it and I looked at doing it myself but in the end most seemed to feel that it really wasn't going to be a factor on a stock truck. You will have no issues if you do decide to swap it out though. I did my muffler and tailpipe about a month ago and have been very happy with that.

Probably not worth it if you not going with a better flowing muffler.
If you live in NC, I can tell you who will do it, they fabricate their own y.
They did mine.

And another thing on the back pressure why would you purposely flatten one side & not the other.

If you look at the point where the two pipes meet (9 o'clock) on the circumference, it is evident that both of the pipes are flattened. At first glance, though, it does look like only the top one is.

Pretty sure 1 is flattened more than the other.
Saved mine in garage, will take a picture later tonight.

Looking through the cutout inside & they look the same, on the outside the one that does not look as flat at the Y crosses under the transmission & is flattened there also so yes they are pretty much equal.

Backpressure?

In other words they don't want your money. Time to find a different exhaust shop.
