Hi Guys,
I have a brand new 2014 Ram 1500 Sport. Km's on clock is just at 800. I am driving a rental Ram 1500 SLT through work with about 6000 km's and the brake pedal feel and the stopping performance is like night and day. I have been noticing how poor my new truck stops, sometimes I end up over the stop sign line. A big truck like this should be able to stop much better. Not too mention the sticker price. It was not a cheap truck. The Ram 1500 SLT stop so much better and has a great pedal feel. It feels solid at the touch of your foot whereas my Sport the pedal just drops out and I have to pump it to get some resistance. Not liking this at all.

I also did notice when I am using the ERS feature the truck will brake a little better. Rpm's are a little higher I guess and there is more engine braking involved. Just my assumption of whats going on. Does that mean that I have to use ERS to stop my truck because the brakes are so lousy. What's the use of having this big 5.7 l Hemi motor if I can't stop at a stop.

With regards to driving with ERS is there a preferred way to use it correctly. I think city driving at 60 kms and below having MDS active really makes the truck drive like a slouch. Can someone please educate me on what is the proper way to use this feature. Will gas mileage decrease with ERS active all the time for city driving. I am thinking of contacting Chrysler Canada and complain about my poor braking performance.

Season your rotors and bed your pads. You basically have new brakes and they need a little breaking in.

Agree with Maddog. I was almost shocked how "bad" my ram 1500 braking was compared to my last truck, 08 Tundra. Found my self going over the stopping line a few times. Started to get worried but told myself they just need bedding in. Sure enough, now that I'm up to 2500 miles, brakes SIGNIFICANTLY better. But I do have to admit, still a little shy of the powerful feel of the Tundra.

Do the 2500s have different brakes?
I've been nothing but impressed and surprised at how well this thing stops...

Thanks Guys for your response.
I can see that it could be a possibility for them to break in. Stopping power and soft pedal feel I think are two different things.
I have read that some 2013/2014 Ram owners received a Recall for their ABS brakes. Some 2500 owners received it. Not sure if it is for 1500 owners as well. Not sure what that's all about but I am going to call customer service and ask. No harm in asking right.
I am hoping that it is just that, that they require breaking in.
Will continue to be optimistic!!!

Same issue with mine. I get out of my beater and into the ram and find myself puckering the first couple stops because the bottom drops out of the peddle. Doesn't seem like I'm going to stop in time beause the more I push the peddle, the further it goes to the floor. Takes a while to get used to.

If it is an overly soft pedal, chances are you have some air in the system. A thorough bleeding should help.

If it's a brand new truck, just take it to the dealer and have it checked out. I believe the abs recall you are talking about is just a software update. Has nothing to do with the base brake system.

Yea, hopefully you can get it figured out. I have a 2014 Sport and love the brakes. I was driving a 11 year old Accord so it could be relative but I think something is off with yours.

I called Chrysler Canada today and was told there are no know brake issues with these trucks. I'm booking an appointment with my dealer to have it checked. Hopefully it is something like air in the system. I will post the outcome of my visit.
Cheers!!!

6900+ miles on my 14 and had to make an emergency stop from about 35mph and the ABS didn't even kick in, no skidding of the tires. Sure didn't stop on a dime or hell even a half dollar... Brakes should be better than that.

You might want to start the process with Chrysler as well, just to get it on record and get everything looked at, in case it ends up being a mass factory defect or design flaw.

lol. Everyone thinks everything is going to be a recall or a lemon law or something. Take the thing into the dealer and see if they can get it fixed up.

Hi All,
I have as of this time had no brake issues with my truck. Of course we need to consider that these things weigh upwards of 5300 lbs and that Hemi can get these suckers rolling in a hurry. Still I think what you all are describing sounds like air in the system. brake fluid doe not compress air does. Orian you need to make sure the dealer knows that you have an issue and you need to have it checked. Mentioning it is liable to get you the pat "they're all like that" answer.
Hope you all get it sorted,

Exactly my thoughts on this brakes issue. Stopping a big vehicle like this is no small feat I agree. But I'm talking about doing 40 or 50 km's/hr. That is not even driving as far as speed goes. Gotta pump 2-3 times sometimes. Only then do I feel some solid pedal feel. I am glad to see that this is just not me having this issue. This is probably how a Recall comes into play. A brand new vehicle should not brake this way under any circumstances. The rental Ram SLT that I'm driving brakes fantastic. My Sport does not.
Thank you guys for partaking in my post. Please add to this post if you are having the same or similar issues. I will follow up with a dealer visit and post my results.

Yup. 10 k on mine and they suck. Think I'll get mine checked too but there was another post about the brakes. Many said they are soft from the factory and feels like they need to be bled. That's just how the1500$ are
