How much hp gain can these truck get without tuning the ecu or does the computer really limit any bolt on performance mod you add to this?, I have a 2015 with 3.21 8 speed, just curious. It sucks the ecu on these trucks are locked.

I’d say the only way to unlock any potential horsepower is with the ecu tuned according to what the engine performs by pushing exhaust, sucking air, and squirting fuel. If you got better exhaust you would tune accordingly. You could add everything onto the truck but without an ecu tune you probably would be feeling that the engine is acting funny. But this is just what I think. Anyone want to chime in?

There are a number of "bolt on's" you can add to your truck; headers, CAI, freer flowing exhaust are some of them. While some of those mod's will not increase your horsepower per say, they will make your truck run better. There is not doubt that a tuner is the best bang for the buck regarding horsepower, especially with a custom tune. If you want better acceleration you can try a Pedal Commander. It will not increase your hp or tq but it will make your truck accelerate faster by removing the "lag" many people experience in acceleration. Also you might think about installing a catch can. Many of the above items will make your truck run better, but the tune is really the piece that pulls them altogether and gives you the maximum performance from all the pieces working together.

I agree about the engine wont feel right. My 11 had minor bolt on's just CIA,catch can, and a drop in 40 series. Without the tune felt like i was driving a 6 cylinder with horrible throttle response. Tune is the way to go. I have a 2016 2500 with the 6.4 i have added CIA and custom exhaust CAT back system. Will be adding 87mm throttle body (Moes) and next PCM with HEMIFEVER tune. IMO the bolt on's just enhance the tune. If your worried about the warranty just get a whole new PCM like im doing and if it has to go to the dealer just swap the stock one back in 10 min job.

I’m not a believer in the throttle body “upgrade”. Maybe if you are running huge cubic inches N/A with a big cam needing the air. But without a proven dyno sheet stock vs upgrade I’d probably save the cash. Anyone else wanna tune in on this?

You can add all the bolt ons you want but the PCM, which controls air/fuel ratios, won't adjust to the additional air in and out of an intake and exhaust system. It won't account for the passage of air through a larger throttle body. And it won't increase line pressure in the transmission to firm up the shifts just because you bolted on some parts.

The best way to 1) get the best benefit of your bolt ons, and, 2) optimize the performance of your truck; is to get that programmer and a custom tune.

You will get more out of a pcm swap & custom tune alone than all the typical mods(intake, headers, muffler and tb) combined on a stock tune.

You can do the pcm swap & Diablo I3 for $499 + the price of a custom tune.

Yeah from the numbers I have seen you only gain about 10-15hp with this upgrade. About the same as a CAI. When you do the tune I think you can get the high end of those numbers pretty easy. There are a few diy threads on here where people have spent a Saturday porting & polishing the stock throttle body & say it is just as good or close to what you can buy.

Wish it was that cheap with my 6.4... I think it is more like $899 including the custom tune. Probably where my tax return money is going. :)

I contacted Moe's & they said that set up will not work on my 16' RAM 2500 w/6.4. Said I had to use this one:
2015-2017 Ram 5.7 and 6.4 Diablo i3 Tuner & Unlocked PCM
Our Price: $899.00
I believe you are correct. I already have the trinity from my prior truck. Talked with Matt like 620 for PCM with HEMIFEVER tune.
