Lookin good Greg!
(That comment may have just been a note to self)

Did your fiberglass even reach over to your little wood pieces on the side of the boxes towards the middle of the truck? Mine didn't get even CLOSE.

Thanks... I think... LOL!!!

No, mine was the same. There is at least an inch between the fiberglass and the little block of wood I added.

Friday I finally assembled the sub boxes and gave the whole system a test run. Man I missed having real subs!!! This things sound awesome. The only real downside is that the fiberglass smell is real strong in the truck. Until today...

I coated all exposed fiberglass with the elastomeric coating i used to sound deaden the cab. The result... no more smell in the truck :)

I decided I would try Plasti-dip for all the exposed wood surfaces. This being my first time using the stuff I was not sure what to expect. The first few coats really soaked into the edges but one they dried the rest of the coats went on real smooth. Here they are in the truck after the finish hardened. As you can see the truck needs a good detail but until pine pollen season is over there is no real point.

Overall I am very happy with this project so far. The new dash speakers made a huge improvement over the factory 'alpine' units. The subs sound great and are exactly what I have been missing. I still need to sound deaden the doors and the front floorboard but that will have to wait until after Spring Break vacation. I also need to decide on some replacement mids for the front doors but I am not in any huge rush at this point. Total investment to date is right at $500 which is right where I wanted to be. :D

Looks good! Amazing how helpful decent bass can be!

I originally went "yea, this sound way better" but I'm already itching for more amps/components.

Power wanna do some for me or help me out ..l

I'd be glad to give you a hand if you decide to build some for yourself. I still have my cardboard templates and a full wood shop if you don't have access to the tools. I even have enough resin and a good bit of fiberglass mat left that I would give you for a real good price.

We need to make time to meet up so you can see them in person.

Can you tell a difference with the infinity dash speakers? Were they worth the upgrade?

There is a significant difference... Especially at the lower volumes. Definitely worth the $70.

Sound deadening Round 2

I started out my Saturday determined to clean up my workshop but after about 15 minutes I stumbled on the partial roll of peel & stick roof patch I used to deaden the rear of the truck. Hmmm... guess the shop can wait till tomorrow. If I go ahead and use the rest now then I won't have to find a place for it to live ;)

I hoped I had enough to do the front doors. Turns out it was just right.

Door panel removal

Removing the front door panels was a piece of cake.

Start by making sure your windows are rolled up. Just sayin...

Then remove the plastic trim piece that covers the bolts for the side mirrors. No pics of this but it just pulls right off.

Next you remove the 6 plastic rivet/screws from the perimeter of the door panel using a #20 torx bit in a screwdriver and a small pry tool.

With the rivet/screws removed you can remove the retainer clips with a small pry tool.

There is only 1 'real' screw that secures the door panel to the door and it is located in the door handle pocket behind the little cover tab.
