There is a point of diminishing return when it comes to sound deadener. Generally for basic builds you don't need much more than 25%-35% after that you kinda just throw money away.

They both pretty much covered it. I would have covered more thoughly with the mat if I was not using the coating over top. On the doors I got 80% coverage with the mat since I knew I wasn't going to add any coating.

After removing the first panel I found that it was easier to pop up the window controls and unplug the harnesses before attempting to remove the door panel.
Too bad I did not commit this to memory before I pulled my rear door panel off...

This is why I started this thread. Sure I wanted to help others but I also wanted a way to remind myself of all the little tricks I learned along the way. :favorites13:

Did your Ram come with the premium sound system originally?

Sweet build, I may experiment with fiberglass in the future. I need to learn anyways to fix my racebike's fairings. I still have figured out how to replace the head unit in my 2007 because I don't understand the can-bus. I wish I had the premium sound so I would just upgrade the speakers and be done.

Thanks man!! The fiberglass itself is pretty easy.... Making it look nice and smooth... well... that is another story.

Removing the rear door panels

Finally got time to swap out the front door door speakers today. The Infinity 2-way 6x9s were ok but the were kinda wasted in the front doors. Plus they were really tight against the grill with the adapter that was needed to clear the window track inside the door. I decided to move the 6x9s to the back doors and ordered a set of 6 1/2 components for the front doors.

Removing the rear doors is just like removing the fronts...
Pop off the vertical trim panel

Pop up the power window switch and release the harness

Remove the screw behind the door handle and the little plate around the door handle

all the little panel screws around the perimeter

and the lift the door panel up and out.

The 6x9s are much more at home in the rear doors. I often fade to the rear speakers when the kids are in the truck and the wife and I are having a conversation so this will mean much more to them than anyone else.

Upgrading the front door speakers... again :)

As with the other Infinity Reference components there is a significant difference in the magnet size and build of these speakers and the 'premium alpine' speakers.

They look really good in the doors and sound amazing. Much better mid-bass response than the 6x9s. Due to the factory amp and crossover settings only the 6 1/2 woofer was installed in the front door.

These speakers made the impact I was looking for when I first decided to replace the factory 6x9s. I really wish I bought them first... but then I probably would not have upgraded the the rear doors... so I guess it all worked out in the end.

I am really REALLY happy with how this turned out now. I think I might actually be done... for a while.... except for some more sound deadening.... and maybe... :naughty:

What brand of panel tools are those?

Yes it is!! I say the same thing but now that I have a 2500 crew cab I'm not sure it would fit in a garage if I had one. :)

Hey bro, I just read this entire thread... GREAT WORK! Thanks for documenting it so well, too.
Thanks man!!! I really enjoyed my build. I kinda hate that it is finished.

Well.... Not completely finished... Still need to do some more sound deadening... And maybe upgrade the subs... Then maybe.... It never ends :) haha!!

Lol!

It's the same for me, I always hate when a mod is finished because doing it is sooooo much fun!
