Powerwire?

I keep coming across guys who have "powerwire" as a mod. What is it?

Its a resistor that goes inline with the IAT sensor and tricks it into thinking the air is colder than it is, so it dumps more fuel into the ratio, which gives you more power at WOT.

if it dumps more fuel, does it hurt MPG's?

Well, considering it only does anything at WOT. You're usually not thinking about MPGs at that time.
