So I bought a PPE 2qt pan (best price I found was Xtreme Diesel) and 12qts of Mopar 8/9 speed fluid (eBay was the best price I found). I also bought several extra filters just to have them on hand. I was lacking time, so took it to a local trans shop.

They stated it took 3qts more than they pulled out, so assuming the pan added two quarts; the factory fill was a quart low.

They also broke a bolt off in one of the exhaust flanges, not quite sure why they were that far back on the exhaust. So I drilled that out, tapped it out, installed a new bolt, twisted the other bolt off and repeated the process. FYI, those are M10x1.5 thread throughout the exhaust. Since they had all the other bolts/nuts off; I took everything loose and neverseized everything (marine-grade, high-temp), replaced some nuts that were rotted (and both those broken bolts) so it would come apart when I do the filter next time.

They liked the pan, they are going to install those on their rebuilds instead of the factory plastic deal. I haven't done any driving since it was installed (broken exhaust bolt), so no thoughts yet. The fluid did make the shifting better, even with only 36k miles on the clock.

I asked them about that thermal deal, they said change that out by 100k. They stated an aftermarket, but had yet to install one.
