Hi I'm in the soon to be process of buy a ram 1500 v8 hemi. Been looking on here a bit and I'm looking at the 8 speed with the 3.92 gears. My question is a lot are listed at 8 speed until I run the vin on dodges website. When u do that it shows standard equipment and optional equipment, not sure which one has what the truck actually has.

Standard equipment shows what the truck comes "standard" with and optional equipment then shows what has been upgraded in replacement of the standard.

You can email the Ram customer support with the VIN and the will email you the exact build sheet for that truck. Usually within 24 hours

It can be confusing.... bottom line is you have to look at the sticker. ExpressRules nailed it. Options replace standard items but don't depend upon a dealer's website. Check the sticker direct.

Yea just trying to look up vins online and some show the standard option with the 3.21 gear but on the options It does not show the gear ratio just the 8 speed tranny.

The 8 speed tranny doesn't get you 3.92s in a 1500 V8. 3.92s are like a $30 option. So you need to look at the windowsticker (all dealers have a link to the window sticker for the truck in inventory) and look for an extra cost 3.92 option specifically listed. Otherwise the truck will have the standard 3.21s.

Exactly what the other guys said. The gears are easy to spot in the sticker because they're usually near the bottom of the option list on the right hand side.
