radiator issues

took the truck for a short ride and when i came back there was a hissing noise coming from the front. popped the hood and right where the rad cap goes was where it was coming from. (my rad is the sealed rad and the over flow is where the cap goes) after i opened the cap and let the remaining air out i noticed a drip on the pass side. gonna bet its the radiator which was replaced before i bought the truck. would the overflow tank not venting it right cause the rad to take a ****? i know im gonna have to get a new one along with a new rad but i wanna make sure this problem doesnt happen again. TIA

Found this too. Exactly what's happening

1.) coolant leak - seems to be comming from the overflow cap as seen in vid

2.) took cap off of coolant resevoir and ran engin -The engine was still a little warm when I did this. After I started the engine the return tube imediately began squirting coolant back into the resevoir (thermistat open?). There was a little steam rising from the resevoir, but I didn't get any bubbles or gysers when I raced the engine.

3.) looked for leak - Traces around pass side end tank. Have not crawled under there yet

ok. took the truck apart. it is the radiator leaking. right at the end tank on the pass side. it looked like the water pump had a drip or 2 but im not sure if thats where it came from. i reinstalled the rad and filled it with water and didnt see any drips by the pump but i didnt really get under it. i dont want to re install a new rad and have this happen again. what could it be?

If your looking for a water leak you will have to get under the truck. Sometime it's easier to back track the water. Start out with everything as dry as possible. Make sure the rad is full and start the engine and to it to operating temp.

These kind of leaks are a good time to test your hair pulling skills.

LOL thanks. i did get under it yesterday. it is leaking on the pass side of the radiator. its weird though that the coolant reservoir started bubbling out air and a tad of coolant, then the rad started leaking shortly after. i just wanted to make sure its not something causing it before i install a new rad. i ordered the reservoir and a new rad, just waiting on them to arrive

in my many searches for a high performance rad, i seen many people with the same issue as you. leaky rad. sounds like a common problem.

what i dont get is its a newer rad. when i bought it last year he said he replaced it. looks fairly new. i know the hose/s are new

must have just got a bad one. that stupid stuff happens sometimes.
