After doing some extensive research on the 65RFE i came to understand everything is normal with it. but, i’m wondering if this other thing is either a brake issue or a trans issue.

Today it was raining pretty bad, and i live on hills, so i usually have to nearly floor it to get that huge truck up the hills until there’s no more hills anymore.

I noticed that once the truck shifts from 2-3, occasionally it’ll like pull itself back if that makes sense with a decent amount of pull behind it, like you slam on the brakes and let off. This is usually followed by the tach dropping RPMs slowly at the end of the shift. Other than that the shifts are perfect. Other than the 6-5 shift in which the torque converter seems to hate locking.

Also, it seems the eco light doesn’t know what the heck it’s purpose is? It comes on when i’m on the gas and the gas mileage gauge is showing 9MPG when i’m CLIMBING A HILL. I don’t think that’s normal.

I know this is quite stupid to add here, but i’m missing a screw for where the caliper mounts to the caliper bracket, i ordered one a few days ago, and i’m waiting for it to get delivered.

I feel like i should add this here too, i made a thread on it a while ago but i don’t know how to access it. The truck trans temp climbs INCREDIBLY fast in Park. Like, it takes it a minute to jump up from 110 (where it usually operated when in drive) to get up to 150-170. Usually after this happens you can shift back into drive and the truck drops trans temps around 20-30 degrees in like 10-15 seconds. Leaving it in drive at idle results in it heating up like before too.

No check engine lights, battery voltage is perfect. I checked everything in Alfa and i don’t have any codes aside from the 3rd brake light being out which seems to be a common trend with the 4th generation truck.

Does yours have an electric cooling fan? If so is it working? If not then is the clutch fan working correctly?

Hello, thank you for your response.

Yes, but A/C e-fan and the Clutch fan work perfectly.

Brakes are stupid for lack of better words, they aren't gonna just depress themselves even if the fluid runs dry. The technology exists you see it in big rigs with spring brakes, but rams don't have such tech. Next time it happens throw it in neutral if you still need to rule out brakes. Abs only reduces pressure, it doesn't add pressure, which would be required for what you said.

It is also easy to see if you have dragging caliper, for one when you stopped they would be red, but absent that you can jack each tire and spin. Make sure flat surface with ebrake off, you will see all spin easily, and even have someone apply brake then let off, it isn't the issue here.

Which corner is missing hardware for the caliper and/or caliper bracket?!?!

You won't want to drive the truck until that's replaced!!

Minor gripe here: The ABS system has a pump to apply pressure to the brake calipers. If it would just bleed off pressure to avoid lockup the pedal would go to the floor. The pump is also used for traction/stability control to brake individual wheels.

Speaking of traction control: The 4.7 isn't a ripper but as it was raining could it be the traction control was kicking in ? With no weight in the bed mine tends to spin pretty easily.

I think that may have been it. I bought a set of 2018 Limited rims around a week ago and they’re gonna be here p soon, and my current tires are pretty bald.

I’ve had to have the front passenger caliper replaced on my 2011 because it got in the habit of dragging. The odd thing is, it happened off and on. It would drag that caliper, then for no reason, it’d work properly again.

I had pretty much the same thing happen on my left drivers rear of my 2014 2 door Wrangler.

I blame those 2 occurrences on the fact that i live alone, and have 3 vehicles that are getting older, and each one may sit in the garage for days on end.

Brakes are “dumb”, and in my case, don’t get enough “exercise”.
