Ram 2500 “Heavy Duty Shocks”

Hello everyone, I’ve been researching but without luck (may be user error), but would anyone be able to tell me the manufacturer and series of the “HD shocks” on a 2020 2500 Big Horn?

Truck drives and rides great, just dealing with a bit of bounce when towing, reason for the question. Thanks.

I am trying to figure out what the stock shock is as I do not want to unknowingly buy them as aftermarket.

What Color? If yellow and Blue they are Bilstein 4600

It isn’t blue and yellow — here is a picture, it’s tagged Mopar

It has cofap on it….perhaps that’s the manufacturer but I haven’t heard of that brand if that is it.

I put bilstein 4600s on the rear of my 2500 and it reduced the bouncing. Still get some but no where near as much.

I have the Bilstein 5100s on my wrangler, I’ve been happy with them. So brand wise, definitely a fan.

I’ve looked at both Fox and Rancho but no experience with either of those brands.

The price on them isn’t horrible either. I have seen that the 4600s are more appropriate fit wise for no lift stock versus the 5100s.

That is correct. If memory serves, 5100's were oriented more toward racing, or some such. Everyone I know around here (lots of contractors) run 4600's. Always been pleased. They won't leak, either.

Doubtful new shocks will help much unless current ones are leaking or otherwise faulty. These trucks ride rough for sure so it may just be something to live with. Otherwise, stiffening up the suspension with airbags will likely result in much greater improvement.

Yeah, I have thought about airbags as well but doesn’t look to be something I could easily install versus the shocks. At least that has been based on my initial research, may be more straightforward than I think.

If interested in Bags check out Timber Grove. Reducing tire pressure will help when not Towing.

I've had a couple sets of various trucks and always paid to have them installed but I don't think it's too difficult if you have the tools, etc. They really do a nice job stiffening up the bounce between the truck and trailer (mine was a 5th wheel so lots of weight in the bed). They also help with sag but even at max payload on my 2500 the sag really a problem. New/better shocks aren't a bad idea either.... Of course, I'm still on OEM at 10 years, 130K miles so don't really have anything to compare to

I went with Bilstein 5160 shocks on my Power Wagon that is loaded pretty heavy. They took the sway out and are a remote resevoir shock. I picked up all 4 for under $1100.

My stock shocks blew out and leaked around 15K. Put on Rancho because of the strike I could not get mine replaced under warranty. Rancho lasted about 3k and where sloppy when towing. I now put 4600 at all 4 corners and been very pleased. Towing my 8000lb trailer most if not all of the bounce is gone. just more confident tow all around.
