Ok so I've got a Ram 3500 with the 5.7 Hemi. I know big truck little engine. Was thinking of doing muffler delete and maybe vararam cold air intake. Thoughts?

Intake, exhaust (swap out stocker for a freer flowing unit), programmer & custom tune should get you going.

Check S&B CAI, one of the less restrictive designs. Muffler deletes are pretty loud - make sure you want to live with it.

I'm saving for headers instead - going to have to replace broken stock exhaust manifold bolts at some point anyway. I haven't found a performance muffler yet that isn't a real noisemaker.

I've found the biggest gains with tuning and exhaust mods to start.

Long tube headers if your state allows them will be the biggest bang for your buck.
The tuner is what makes it all work. It's like tuning jets for a carb but they now use laptops instead.

If no long tubes look for mid length SRT8 manifolds or aftermarket shorty headers.

Not sure if the 3500 suffers from the Y-pipe crimp but if you do short headers you'll need the y-pipe fabricated to take full advantage.

Save the money on CAI till the exhaust side is maximized.

Muffler delete won't really benefit alone without the rest of the exhaust.

Big truck little engine with a gear swap could make that truck fun.

The factory y pipe has a horrible crimp (6.4 anyway). How much it actually hurts is anyone's guess. Personally I'd do gears, a custom tune, headers, and maybe a converter. In that order. Just keep your expectations in check. These trucks are heavy and it takes a lot of hp to motivate them.
