I have a 2008 Ram Big Horn edition. And I have owned it for a little over 2 years now. But my question is for those who might own the same model year and body type as mine. Is yalls rear axel locked all the time? Like a diff lock is on.

I doubt any OEM axles are locked all the time. It would either be a selectable locker, or a limited slip differential. Fully locked axles cause an excessive strain on components, and road manors are harsh.

I have never heard of any selectable axles failing in the locked position. I did however have a lunchbox locker shear a pin that jammed between the internals and prevent it from ratcheting. Perhaps something is preventing it from unlocking...

Now, if you are asking because when you had the axle in the air both wheels spin in the same direction, that is the behavior or locked (in locked position) and limited slip differentials. Open, or locked (open when unlocked) axle wheels will spin in opposite directions. Locked axles that are limited slips in unlocked positions will spin in the same direction.

It's a limited slip, the factory Mopar LSD's are really good about turning both tires even when turning. I love mine.

My guess is either the fluid needs changed or someone changed it at some point and didn't use the friction modifier if it was needed.
