Just finished a 3000 mile road trip today. Truck did really well, except for a check engine light that came on twice and stayed on for a couple of days each time (cut off eco-mode each time).
I had my camping gear in the bed of the truck. I also had my cargo carrier on the rear, for my 120qt and 60qt coolers. Just food, drinks, and ice for the trip.
One thing I can say, is I was really disappointed with the sag in the rear suspension with that little bit of weight. I can’t imagine how bad it would be if I actually had on a real load. It also adversely affected handling while hitting bumps on the interstate.

That's the downfall of dodge suspension is the rear coils but the ride is nicer. Maybe put a pair of 2500 coils on or something. Might sit a little higher but it would work.

What year is the truck?

My truck is a 2016. Maybe a new set of shock would help. I’m not sure.

The strange thing is, my wife’s 2012 doesn’t sag near as much.

I put a set of KYB Monomax shocks on and they don't really help the sag that much but they do help the ride. To get rid of sag you'll need to upgrade the springs or get a set of bags. That's what I plan on doing sometime in the near future to help with my 33' travel trailer.

I agree. I have had a lot of trucks in the past, and this one is by far the worst. Even my wife commented on it. I wonder how a set of air shocks would do.

Shocks are unlikely to help much. We all want our trucks to ride like a Cadillac so the manufacturers comply. Unfortunately, that suspension just doesn't work much like..... a truck :) I've been down this road and now drive a 2500 (bumping and jarring as I go on my merry way). Your best bet other than that is airbags. They are great in that you can run them aired up when you need them but keep the Cadillac suspension when you don't. All the weight police always yell and scream that airbags don't increase the payload rating of your truck and that is 100% accurate. What they do accomplish is being able to carry weight properly right up to the rating.... as in, headlights NOT pointing at the sky.

Air shocks would work not too expensive but I think heavier springs is best option imo
Airshocks are for adapting to handling requirements, not for load support.
@Bramic71 you should consider either new progressive springs or airbags(coil to frame or bag in coil).

Replaced my rear shocks today with 4600s, passenger side was shot between 60-70k miles. No resistance and wouldn’t extend at all after compression.

OEM shocks have about half of the absorption of the Bilsteins, this is a result of many people want luxury Cadillac rides on these 1500s.

This is another change that should’ve been on a sport truck from the factory along with the sway bar.

I’d suggest the OP to also install air bags to help the springs as they are also on the soft side. Plan to do so soon to assist towing level this winter.

OP will be happy for what he's describing with better grade in-coil bags. Inflate before loading then bleed off when empty again. You still have the smooth ride without the sag loaded or not. I'm done with 3/4 ton trucks now that bags are now such an affordable and readily available option.

The in-coil bags are a great idea, and with a really reasonable price.

Stock load coil springs are a joke. You can benefit the most with some heavy rate ones, Tuff Truck 1211's should do the trick for you.

Thank you for your suggestion. Those do look like a good idea, and yes the stock ones are a joke. My other trucks would have laughed at the little bit of weight I had on, but not this one. Looked like I was carrying a fully loaded trailer, when I had camp stuff and a cargo carrier.

I’ve had several comments about how low my truck sits because of carrying a few hundred pounds of tools recently. Either change the springs or get a spacer to pick up some height.
