On our first camping trip of the year, first ever with our trailer, we were told to park across the front of the trailer, partway into the lane. Evil Knievel Jr. was ripping up & down the lane on his BMX when we heard a metallic "Twaaaaaang!". Running over, we found a helmet-less 8 year old tangled up in his bike behind the truck.
Going against every instinct in my body, I asked if he was OK before looking at the truck. He said "yeah" and peddled off, presumably before he could get in trouble.
We checked the bumper and FFFUUUKKKKK he dented the metal bumper, f'd up a trim ring for a parking sensor and gouged the paint. Goodbye DS Trinity funds.
She got dropped off for surgery last night, hopefully ready for end of the week.
Interestingly while we were getting our quote, the guy noticed our driv/pass gap between the rear fender and bumper was uneven. He asked where we got it fixed. I told him we bought it new and had not been in an accident, so he asked if we got a discount because of the dealer's boo-boo. Huh?
He explained dealers often just spray mostly cosmetic damage caused by rubbing during transport/shipping. He is going to throw a chain on it and pull so the gap is even before pulling the dent & respraying.
Fingers crossed for best results!

man that's painful! on the bright side atleast you're getting it fixed right away and the uneven gap should get straightened out too!

i would've talked to the kid's parents right away too..but then again as a canadian, i'd probably apologize for having my truck there. lol.

Because we were told to park partway into the lane but he didn't have a helmet we thought we'd let Karma ride it out, and just pay for the truck. It was close to walking around and getting his parents insurance info though.

Sorry to hear about this. If you could have found his parents, they would be liable for the damage... Just saying!

With my old truck I was sitting at an intersection waiting to turn when the light turned red and I had to back up a bit. I look back and see nothing so I start moving VERY slowly, when all of a sudden something is under my wheel and It's making a racket. I get out to find a kid laying on the ground with skate board wedged under my tire. You could even see the sweat mark where the kid bounced off the bumper. lol

My luck... There was a cop directly across from me (reason for not turning) and the boys grandma happened to be in the intersection as well... WTF? Long story short, kid was fine, truck was fine, cop said he saw me look back, but the kids were too short and right behind the truck so I got off with nothing, and the kids sped home with a story!

Not trying to sound like a bad person, but that fact he wasn't wearing a helmet was the only thing stopping us. He could have had a concussion... we're not "sue-happy" like some countries are but it does happen, and so $600 out of pocket is just better said and done than a potentially long-winded legal battle.
I would have preferred filling it and then buffing it out and leaving the dent, and getting the Trinity, but it IS a city truck (driveway queen) that I like it to look pretty, not a work truck...

i agree with you on both your points. i have a couple of very small dings with the paint perfectly intact right at the top of the tailgate..most people dont see them (even i didnt until a week into owning the truck..while detailing) and they bother the hell outta me. i'd definitely get the dent popped!

do post pics up after.

I hear ya. I had a dent in my rear bumper (considerably larger than yours) that obviously did not affect the truck, but I could not stand it since I had the truck only 9 months. Had to get it fixed. In the shop right now getting a new bumper.

Oh, I didn't think you should "sue" them. I am the same way... Suing is only the last resort.

No no- we were concerned the kids parents might sue US, as we were parked partially on the lane, but the RV park owner told to so it would be a bugger of a situation.
If he has permanent head trauma (there was no blood, or signs of anything serious or I would have found his parents) he will have learnt a lesson.

Ahhhh- that's better. the L/R gap is nearly perfect now, too. Better than the day we bought it, about 11 months ago to the day :party33:

Dammit I was going to say something about that. The shop "washed" the truck to clean off all the crap from sitting inside their shop for a couple days.
We get wicked thunderstorms almost every afternoon now so it's almost pointless...
They ARE polished and clean of soot, just not wiped clean
