Hello,

Just want to know if someone here have installed a rear facing seat in a quad cab safely? It's seems it will not fit on both side, but it will fit in the middle. But the anchor are on but side , not in middle. I tried the seat can be anchored on both side, but is it safe ? Also the middle of the rear is narrow vs the side.

We have an another car but it and old kia rio and I don't feel to secure in this car. That's at this moment a really regret to not take a crew cab... I still have few month before to decide what I do. But I don't want to loose a ton of money if it's safe but just not easy to setup in a quad. But if it's not safe I will need to change for a crew.

I have a large Chico convertible seat for my son he is rear facing it will fit in all three seats. But can make the front passengers uncomfortable. We keep him in the middle using the lap belt (just as safe as anchors if done properly.) Don't use the anchors in the adjacent seats. It is not designed to pull sideways just back. I wish I would have gotten the crew but we make do with the quad and are very happy

I have one in mine. It is a little tight, but I moved the passenger seat forward installed the seat and then slid the passenger seat back. My wife doesn't complain.

I have the Eddie Bauer convertible seat in the middle the convertible seats are the only ones I have found to not hang too far off the middle seat By my research it needs to be at least 80% on the seat that just what no have read. I use the ancors they are a little wide but they still atach just fine the problem with the middle seatbelt is that it's a shoulder belt that doesn't have a auto lock so you would have to use the clips provided with the car seat I felt the anchors were vetter. The car seat moves less than the directions allow I feel my son is very safe in it. I wish I too would have gotten the crew because if we put the seat on the passenger side my wife's knees touch the dash and that's not safe. Tomorrow I will grab a picture and post it for you. my sister in law has been on there volunteer fire department for 8+ years and she gave me the thumbs up on our seat and how it was attached.

Use the middle with the seat belt. The middle is still the safest place. Don't use the side anchors.

But, having the crew is a night and day difference for room. I found that my wife likes riding back there with our newborn.

Why wouldn't you use the anchors? They are in my opinion a lot safer the middle seat doesn't have a auto lock.

You can put the rear facing in, but it has to be on the left or right for the anchors. You'll have to scoot one of the two seats forward to fit it.

So you have the back side just hanging out over the floor board... Umm, no.

Agree with this. You need the entire base supported on the seat. Also, the anchors aren't designed to have lateral stress on them like that. In an accident the anchors will get pulled to the side instead of straight which might cause them to give way.

Now, you might not have any other option but if you do I would change it.

There is no "other option", you have to scoot the seat forward and make sure that precious cargo is safe.

Agreed, but I don't presume to know the circumstances that might or might not let him do this.

I don't remember the exact percentage but it's 85-90% supported I looked through hell and back to find a seat with a shorter base to fall under the base rule of 80% On the seat. That the reason I don't run a carrier the base only sat on 70% of the seat. If a anchor can't handle any type of lateral stress why dose it hold in place in a side impact? I can already see I'm about to be fire blasted for this but I did my research and go the thumbs up from local fire department if that's not good enough for you Then get a crew cab. The seat will not fit behind the driver or passenger seat with someone sitting in them just not going to happen.

I know they test this stuff in every way and in ways that were very unlikely. I'm saying you did it wrong, but more along the lines of I wouldn't do it. I see unneeded stress on the base happening as well. I'm more than positive the anchors would hold, but I still think behind the seat is the best option.

I don't wanna end fight on this because I know it's gonna get heated. Everyone do it how you feel you should, I'm not going to tell you how to raise your child as I would expect the same.

I respect that 100%. I did everything I can to protect my kido and the wife I'm not taking a 5-6000 hit to get a crew cab. I learned a lesson and will get one next time around. But I feel very safe with the way it sits in my truck. Other wise I would of taken that hit to make sure everyone is safe.

That's all that matters.

FYI once you move to front facing, you need to use two of the fabric tether points on the back of the rear seat. I was using only one for a while and couldn't figure out how to get the damn seat tether tight.

You need to pass the tether through the headrest, through the immediate tether loop and then secure it to the middle seat tether loop. Then just crank it down so the car seat doesn't move laterally. Also, make sure that your headrest doesn't cause the car seat back not to sit flush on the seat

This is the reason I sold my quad and bought the crew.... I can't drive with my seat all the way forward...

I guess it all depends on the type of child seat you have. With ours behind the passenger seat (I have two children) my wife's knees are not touching the dash at all. I'll get a pic later.

Please excuse my ignorance, but why are there rear and forward facing seats?

I don't have kids yet, but my quad has to last me the next 7-10 years.
