Hey I’m not sure if I’m in the right category or not. My 1st time posting so here it goes, I have a 2014 Ram Laramie with the 6.4L hemi, I blew my water pump Friday while towing my RV home. I made it home got a new pump and replaced it between Friday night and Saturday. Only issues I had was finding a vacuum tool to put new coolant back in. I got my hands on 1 and when I got it going it only drew up about 2 gallons of new coolant. And when it stopped my fill reservoir was almost filled to the top and has not gone down at all. I’m concerned I don’t have enough coolant and the system is not burping if it can at all. I have run the truck 2 different times to operating temps but not much has changed. It’s not over hearing and running at about 195-205 and help wud be appreciated.

Systems don't typically need to be burped or topped off after a vaccum fill. The system also wasn't 100% empty which is why it only took 2 gallons. You are good to go in my opinion.

If you can run down the freeway at speed and the temperatures are running 195-205 without going higher, the system is probably good.
The system actually burbs air into the coolant bottle.

Squeeze the upper radiator hose a bunch and it'll help burp it. The expansion bottle coolant level will go down quite a bit. Obviously, do this when engine is COLD.

Is that your coolant or your oil, man you need to do some flushes.

That’s my radiator fluid and I had just bought all the fluid to do a radiator flush when we got back from our trip. The blown water pump was an extra adventure for the weekend

I apologize in advance if I’m stating the obvious:

When I bleed the coolant I like to remove the rad cap and let the engine run with the heat set to max coming out the upper vents.

When you feel heat on your hand the thermostat should crack open and you’ll watch the coolant suddenly go down in the rad, just fill it up again and after that you’re good.

Did you replace the thermostat when you replaced the water pump?

As for the reservoir, just add or remove coolant until it’s in it’s happy place.

Rams HEMI coolant system bleeding, can be done with a cold engine.

The water pump on most HEMI engines is the Highest point in the cooling system

see the plug on the left of the water pump, that is the AIR BLEEDER Plug
Now look on the right of the water Pump, there is a copper fitting, you can remove, the wiring & carefully remove the fitting

Yeah, well, squeezing the upper hose worked pretty good for me.

Squeezing the hoses is a very good extra step

In fact, repeating the bleeding process after driving it for a few days is another good extra step

This video covers the Air Bleeding of the Cooling System, better than i could state it
